Alumni Profile
Can-do Attitude Helps Alumna Work Around the World: With seemingly endless energy, Carla Hala (Cross Continent MBA ’07) has juggled her career, an MBA, and volunteer work. Now based in London, she assists with various Fuqua events.
The Fuqua School of Business has had a physical presence in London since 2008, as part of Duke University's global strategy. We share our office space with Duke Corporate Education (the customized executive education arm of Duke University) which has been established in Europe since 2001.
Whether you are a prospective business school student, an alumnus/alumna of Duke, or another interested individual or organization, we are interested in connecting with you about how Duke is making its presence felt in Europe.
Fuqua Programs for European Students
Every year Fuqua welcomes many European students to its programs. If you are considering Duke and would like to learn more, please contact us directly or attend one of our information sessions. The Duke MBA is an internationally renowned business degree that can be studied in one of four programs, depending on your level of professional experience and your personal and professional goals. The MBA programs available are:
Durham North Carolina Programs
Fuqua offers two programs based on the Duke campus in North Carolina that are perfect for prospective European students looking to study in the U.S.:
- Daytime MBA — a traditional, two-year full-time program ideal for candidates with several years of business experience.
- Master of Management Studies (MMS: Foundations of Business) — a 10-month, full-time program for recent college graduates.
Global Programs
No matter where in the world you live and work, working professionals can complete these global programs without interrupting successful careers. You will study in multiple locations across the world, including the first and last terms on the Duke campus in North Carolina:
- Cross Continent MBA — a 16-month international program for professionals (average age is 30) who will study in five different locations across the world.
- Global Executive MBA — an intensive 15-month international program for senior executives (average age is 39) who will study in seven global locations.
Durham North Carolina Programs for Working Professionals
While not suited for prospective students living outside of North America, Fuqua also offers a weekend program based on the Duke campus in North Carolina for working professionals who live within commutable distance:
- Weekend Executive MBA — a 19-month MBA program for working professional with at least five years of work experience.
Executive Education in London
Duke University's corporate education arm, Duke Corporate Education (Duke CE), is responsible for all customized executive education requests within Europe. Duke CE has a global reputation for excellence spanning economics, international relations, trade, government and law. Duke CE has been ranked No. 1 in the world since 2003 (from the Financial Times).
The Fuqua School of Business is not currently running any open enrollment executive education programs in London. If you are interested in open enrollment at Fuqua, you can participate in one of our Executive Education programs held on our home campus in North Carolina.
Partnerships
Fuqua has a number of partnerships with academic organizations across Europe. These relationships provide the opportunity for our students to undertake exchange programs, as well as offer developmental experiences for our faculty. More details are available in the Partners section.
Alumni in Europe
One of the great benefits of the collaborative and inclusive personality of Duke is that the alumni network is not hampered by degree or school affiliation, but is extended to any graduate of any Duke program. Europe is home to thousands of Duke alumni with a wide selection of academic and cultural backgrounds who are united by their experience and love of Duke.

Steph Brookes joined the Europe Team in 2008. Her primary role is to provide information regarding the school to prospective students, businesses, and Duke alumni, and she also coordinates logistics for all our events across Europe. She is also one of our regional admissions counselors, working in-depth with prospective students to find the right Duke MBA or Executive Education program to suit their needs.
Prior to joining Fuqua, Brookes worked in Human Resources for the Kelly Services European Team. Her most recent role at Kelly focused on internal recruitment of the senior leadership team, and the creation of the new European head office in Switzerland.
Directions to Office
Our office is located in Central London on the north side of Fleet Street between Fetter Lane and Ludgate Circus. We occupy the first floor (one above street level) at 165 Fleet Street.
Closest Tube/Underground Stations:
- Chancery Lane (Central line) — approximately 14 minute walk
- Temple (District and Circle lines) — approximately a 13 minute walk
- Blackfriars (District and Circle lines) — approximately a 13 minute walk
Directions from Surrounding Airports
From Heathrow Airport: Proceed to Heathrow Central railway station (located beneath terminals 1, 2 and 3) and take the Heathrow Express. It goes to London Paddington station. From there take a cab to 165 Fleet Street.
From Gatwick Airport: Proceed to the South Terminal and follow signs to the Gatwick Railway Station and take the Gatwick Express. It goes to London Victoria station. From there take a cab to 165 Fleet Street.
From London City Airport: Proceed to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station at London City Airport. Take a train to Bank and get off at the Bank stop. From there take a cab to 165 Fleet Street.

The purpose of Fuqua's European Regional Advisory Board is to advise the school on matters related to curriculum, programs, and operations with a focus on the promotion of communication and relationships within the business community across Europe. Since 2001, Duke CE has had a joint venture with the London School of Economics (LSE), and Duke CE has been ranked No. 1 in the world for corporate education since 2003 (by Financial Times ).
