Class Schedule
Classes are scheduled to begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. EST Monday
and Thursday, starting Monday, January 22 and ending Thursday, March
1. We suggest that you establish
your connection 10-15 minutes prior to the start of each class.
Each class will last approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes with a
fifteen minute break around 1 hour into the class.
Webcast Technical Information
Our webcast will be powered by DigitalIsland
and encoded using the Real format at 56k, 100k and 300k. If you
have questions as to the appropriate speed for your site, we suggest
that you contact your IT help desk or LAN Administrator.
The
archived webcasts will be available for 90 days after the initial
broadcast as per our contract with Digital Island.
Software Requirements
You will need the following software:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later or Netscape Navigator
4.06 or later
- RealPlayer
G2 or later (e.g. RealPlayer 8) or Windows Media Player (version
6.4 or later)
If
you do not have Real Player, you can download it from the Real
website. Or, if you prefer to use Windows Media Player, it may
be downloaded from the Microsoft
website.
Testing the Connection
We strongly suggest that you test your browser and RealPlayer prior
to the event to confirm that your system is configured properly
for viewing the webcast. In addition to identifying software issues
that you may need to address, the test should also help identify
any firewall issues that you may have at your site. If you have
questions about your software, your PC or you think that you may
have firewall issues, please contact your IT help desk for assistance
as they are in the best position to answer your individual questions.

To
test your machine, visit the class website, authenticate using the
user ID and password that have been provided to you. Once you have
successfully authenthicated, select "Introduction" and
view Dr. Cam Harvey speaking. Once you have done this you should
be ready to go to the first class.
Attending the Webcast
Connect to the webcast at ....
You will have to enter your user ID and password before you are
taken to the live site. You may connect at any time during the webcast
though we recommend establishing the connection 10 to 15 minutes
before the start of class. The webcasts will also be archived so
you may view previous classes at any time.
Asking Questions
You can ask Professor Harvey questions during the class by FAX or
email. Email should be sent to ceb4@mail.duke.edu.
The number for the FAX machine in the classroom is (919) 660-7932.
The FAX machine will be operational byapproximately 10:45 a.m. EST
each scheduled class.
