Fuqua
Rises To No. 5 in Business Week Rankings: "Takes B-school
world by storm."
Duke
University's Fuqua School of Business has risen to No. 5 on BusinessWeek's
list of the best graduate schools of business in the United States-up
from its No. 7 ranking in the last survey in 1998 and No. 11 in
1996.
Released online
September 21 and in its printed magazine version with a cover date
of Oct. 2, the survey cited Fuqua's popularity with corporate recruiters
and high ratings by its MBA students as chief reasons for the higher
ranking.
BusinessWeek
said: "The Durham (N.C.) school has taken the B-school world
by storm, climbing six spots since 1994 with steady improvements
to its program and brand. The school also got a small boost from
our intellectual capital ranking. Grads gave its placement office
the highest score in the surveys while recruiters lauded the school's
program as the most improved."
"We are so proud that the significant improvements we have made
across all areas of Fuqua are being recognized in this way," said
Dean Rex D. Adams. "We are the youngest of the Top 10 business schools
and are in competition with the very best in the country, so we
are very, very happy.
"However, we must keep this and other news media rankings in their
proper perspective," Adams said. "We do not let them be the major
motivation behind progress at Fuqua-but a snapshot of how we are
doing in our quest to be the best business school in the world."
The BusinessWeek
survey is based mainly on two opinion surveys. Students who graduated
from Fuqua last May were quizzed about all aspects of their educational
experiences. Second, corporate recruiters who hire the graduates
of Fuqua and other schools were asked their opinions of each school.
"We are passionate about serving the needs of our students and the
corporations that hire them," Adams said, "so it is an A+ grade,
indeed."
