Finance Faculty Receive Research Honors

Professor David Hsieh was awarded the Robert J. Schwartz Memorial Prize for the best paper on hedge funds in 1998 by the Fischer Black Memorial Foundation. The title of Hsieh's paper, which was co-authored with William Fund, is "A Risk Neutral Approach to Valuing Trend Following Strategies." The award was presented at the International Association of Financial Engineers (IAFE) conference in February 1999.

Assistant professor Alon Brav received one of the prestigious Smith Breeden Prizes for distinguished papers in 1998. Prizes are given annually to the best paper and two distinguished papers appearing in the Journal of Finance. Brav's paper, which was co-authored with Paul A. Gompers, was titled "Myth or reality? The Long-run Underperformance of Initial Public Offerings: Evidence from Venture and Non-venture-backed Companies." The Smith Breeden prizes are presented by the Journal of Finance and the American Finance Association.
