DURHAM, N.C. - The non-degree executive education
programs at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business have been
ranked No.2 in the world by the Financial Times newspaper.
The ranking is divided into three categories: open-enrollment,
custom education, and an overall category. Fuqua's open-enrollment
programs moved up from No. 6 to the current ranking of No. 4. Duke
Corporate Education, Inc., www.dukece.com,
a profit-making company that was spun off from the business school
in 2000 to provide customized educational programs to corporations,
moved from the No. 2 custom education slot to No. 3. The overall
ranking of No. 2 is an increase from last year's ranking issue of
No. 3.
"The open-enrollment programs at Fuqua are designed to meet
the needs of our participants and are complemented by our innovative
and collaborative learning environment. The rankings are another
indication of our commitment to deliver superlative education for
managers who come to Duke from all around the world," said
Rick Staelin, associate dean of Fuqua's open-enrollment program.
"Despite the fact that The Fuqua School of Business is a relatively
young school, it has consistently ranked among the top business
schools in the world. This is due in large part to the professional
staff, faculty and students who attend and work here," said
Dean Douglas T. Breeden.
"It's nice that after being in business less than two years
we are being recognized on a sustained basis as one of the best
in the world at what we do," said Blair Sheppard, president
and CEO of Duke Corporate Education. "We are pleased that our
ratings are high in the places of most concern to our clients, such
as course design and faculty. The synergy between us as a private
company and Fuqua as a business school shows in this survey, and
that has been an important goal for us from the start."
Responses from executive education course participants, corporate
purchasers and a survey of business schools all helped to determine
the placement of each school's program. The rankings are available
online at www.financialtimes.com
and on newsstands beginning May 27, 2002.
The Fuqua School of Business (www.fuqua.duke.edu)
