MANAGEMT 746 - Power and Politics in Organizations
The purpose of the course is to equip the student with a mature understanding of the realities of the strategic use of organizational power. The non-hierarchical structure of many organizations, the pervasive introduction of teams and other participative structures and the emergence of interorganizational strategies to accomplish firm objectives means that today's manager depends more than ever on the use of power and influence strategies to get things done.
The course examines the complex interplay of these strategies with the more traditional approaches to managerial decision-making. Emphasis is placed on providing the student with an opportunity to enhance personal skills in the strategic side of management and to understand the implications from a career perspective.
