Happy Birthday!
June 24, 2010
Each month, FuquaNet recognizes the alumni whose birthdays fall on the issue's publication date. We asked the alumni celebrating a birthday today (June 24), "Where are you now?" Here's what they said:
Neil Block, Daytime MBA 1986
I am a Senior Managing Director of Fixed Income and Equity Syndicate for the investment bank, Dominick & Dominick LLC.
Enrique Conterno, Daytime MBA 1992
My wife, Kathleen, and I, together with our three kids, live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I joined Lilly upon graduation, and after a world-tour, our family returned to the U.S. in 2006 after being in Mexico for three years.
Deepa Desai, Daytime MBA 1993
I am living in New York, NY, with my husband, Sumit, our 6-year old daugher, Avni, and 3.5 year old twins, Arjun and Nitya. I've been taking a break (if you can call it that:)) since the twins were born from the consulting and hedge fund worlds.
Rob Farrington, Daytime MBA 2002
Living in Weston, CT. Just passed the three-year wedding anniversary. Wife Donna, son Joey, and daughter Dominique are the reasons I walk around with a smile all day long. Gave up on the NYC commute a few years back and never looked back. Working at Evaluation Associates, institutional investment consultant with great work/life balance. Duke hoops and lacrosse! Keep the championships coming.
Michael Sean Flynn, Daytime MBA 2008
I'm married to Brynn, living in Pittsburgh, and stomping tomatoes at Heinz. I still play soccer (badly) and am working on a software start-up that helps college coaches track their communications with recruits. Coach K, give me a call.
Maike Henzel, Duke Goethe MBA 2009
Professional: Still working with Accenture and my focus there—Management Consulting CRM—has also not changed. Currently I am working on a project in Zurich, Switzerland—a city nearly as nice as Hamburg that I can recommend for a visit! Private: Relaxing on the sailing boat almost every weekend in summer time. Great news: Max PhD is also done!
Martin Leppitsch, Weekend Executive MBA 2007
The past three years since graduation have been filled with challenges and rewards as I have continued to grow my technology and strategy consultancy. I've been able to volunteer with a national organization which counsels and mentors local startups and entrepreneurs. And on a personal note, I am looking forward to getting married this summer.
Melissa J. Mills, Evening Executive MBA 1987
Greetings! After 30 years in higher education academic administration, I "retired" and am just completing a Masters of Theological Studies at the Duke Divinity School—another Duke degree! I was delighted to spend time at Fuqua last week, which happened to be the site of the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Society for Spirituality, Theology and Health. Fuqua is more beautiful than ever, but retains its homey charm along our dear classroom hallway. In the fall, I will be teaching "Ethics in Science," a freshman Focus seminar at Duke—one of a cluster of four courses on "The Faces of Science." In addition, I plan to continue studying Biblical Hebrew and Greek, and looking for ways to turn a profit while I start to write books on "original grace," "the gift economy" and "the marriage of science and faith." I'm also having fun playing tennis, riding my bike, and enjoying delightful visits with my family, friends, and 21-year old daughter!
Bill Stewart, Weekend Executive MBA 2003
Since graduating, I have expanded my responsibilities with DePuy Spine, Johnson & Johnson. I am now the Area Vice President with responsibility for managing the sales teams on the east coast and southeast. I married ML Zellers (WEMBA 2003) and we now have a beautiful baby girl. I spend my free time coaching my son's soccer team and teaching Junior Achievement or Character Education at school. I am also now a deputy black belt with plans of testing for black belt in the fall.
