Campout 101
June 14, 2011
What do you have to do for a chance to fly around the world with the legendary Duke Blue Devil Men's Basketball team or for a chance to win men's basketball tickets (even Duke-UNC tickets) to a game in Cameron Indoor? All you gotta do is Campout.
Who can do Campout? All Fuqua alumni and all students in class by June 30, 2011, can be campers.
When do you pitch your tent? Campout for this season starts on Thursday, June 30, and runs through Monday, July 25, at 5:00 p.m. EDT at www.fuqua.duke.edu/campout
How do you play? The rules are simple. Make it through Campout by completing the four required "check-ins" -- at your convenience at any time during the weeks of Campout -- and your name is entered into a lottery to win the grand prize trip and basketball tickets. You can increase your number of chances in the lottery by earning participation points through completing additional check-ins. So, the more you play the game, the greater your chances of winning tickets to a game or hopping a jet with the Blue Devils.
Where do you sign up? Starting Thursday, June 30, Campout 2011 will be held at www.fuqua.duke.edu/campout. Go there that day to get in the game.
Tell your classmates—the more people participating, the more basketball tickets released into the lottery.
This is super cool, we know.
Stuff You Need to Know:
What is a check-in? You'll see, but they are small tasks to support Team Fuqua—from updating your alumni record to tweeting faculty research to supporting admissions and the Career Management Center (CMC). You'll also get recognition (ahem, "participation points") for all the ways you've helped Team Fuqua over the past year. You helped a classmate get job? Tell us about it and collect your points. You told a prospective student that Fuqua is the best business school in the world? Tell us and collect your points. Or, going forward want to volunteer? Tell us, we'll put you on a list, and you'll get some points. You get the gist.
What's a challenge? Just to keep things interesting, don't be surprised if your class gets pitted against another class on a certain check-in. It's called a challenge and there may be prizes at stake or maybe just bragging rights…you'll have to play and see.
How do you know who's winning? A leader board keeps track of the highest scoring individuals and Fuqua classes, so come to Campout prepared to kick some butt.
How do you make sure everyone's playing by the rules? Honor Code (remember that?) is in effect! Campout Committee will be making spot checks throughout the month, so you better keep it a clean game.
Are there any other prizes? You bet! In addition to the grand prize—two seats on the private plane with the Blue Devil Men's Basketball team (including meals and accommodations on a two-week trip to China and the United Arab Emirates in August 2011)—campers who earn the most participation points in a category will be eligible for other prizes, including signed Duke basketballs, free tuition to a Duke Executive Education program, tickets to Duke men's basketball games in Cameron, and so on. Oh, yeah—don't be surprised if we put new prizes into the mix! The more players, the more prizes, so tell your friends.
Why are you doing this? You mean besides it being just super cool? Campout isn't just about basketball. With more than 17,000 alumni and current students representing everyone who has ever walked Fuqua's halls, this is also the only Team Fuqua event of its kind. Campout is a place to bond with your classmates, learn what's going on at Fuqua, find out how to get involved and give back, connect with graduates in your current organization, and make connections—or trash talk, whatever—with other Fuqua programs.
IMPORTANT: In order to participate in Campout, you must register and play during the Campout period. If you have a conflict with Campout 2011, we are sorry to inform you that exemptions will not be available. Please read the 2011 Terms and Conditions policies available during Campout for the requirements, rules and regulations around Campout prizes.
