Center for Technology, Entertainment and Media Launches New Website

July 19, 2011

Launched during an uncertain time period characterized by a global financial crisis, unprecedented political uprisings across the Middle East, and debilitating Japanese natural disaster, Fuqua's Center for Technology, Entertainment and Media (CTEM) is redefining the boundaries of business education to prepare our students to lead in an increasingly connected, complex, and unpredictable world.

For several months, Fuqua has been developing CTEM in support of Fuqua's vertical strategy. Now, with the recent launch of CTEM's website and continued planning for a number of upcoming events, CTEM is quickly progressing towards the achievement of its mission and goals, and the center seeks alumni partnership to continue its advancement in the coming year.

CTEM is in a unique position to add extraordinary value to Fuqua's students, faculty, and the industry overall. From a student perspective, over 20 percent of recent Fuqua MBA graduates took positions within technology, entertainment, and media (TEM), and the industry is expected to grow to $1.7 trillion by 2014. Given students' growing industry interest and the industry's rapid growth, there is an immense opportunity for Fuqua students to capitalize on careers in this field. From a research perspective, CTEM is engaging Fuqua faculty to research and better understand how technology disruption is reshaping the enterprise in the 21st century. Drawing on faculty strengths across multiple disciplines and Duke University at large, CTEM is conducting relevant and rigorous cross-disciplinary research grounded in business issues situated at the nexus of technology, entertainment and media.

The evidence is clear that development of Fuqua's capability in the TEM arena is necessary and imminent.  CTEM's ability to realize its goals is strengthened by, and in many respects, dependent upon the ongoing support and engagement of industry professionals and Fuqua alumni.

There are numerous ways to engage with CTEM, and the center is eager to engage with alumni and industry practitioners at all levels.  If you'd like to get involved in CTEM, please explore CTEM's new website at http://www.fuqua.duke.edu/ctem/, and contact the CTEM team to identify mutually beneficial engagement opportunities. With the help of Fuqua alumni, we will move closer and faster towards establishing CTEM as the epicenter for where technology, media, and entertainment issues are identified, researched, discussed, and transferred to the leaders of tomorrow.
