Happy Birthday!

Each month, FuquaNet recognizes the alumni whose birthdays fall on the issue's publication date. We asked the alumni celebrating a birthday today (July 19), "Where are you now?" Here's what they said:

Mauro Atalla, Global Executive MBA 2005

I am living in Glastonbury, CT, and working for United Technologies. My family is doing great, and we continue to enjoy living in New England. Leonardo, who is one of several babies born during GEMBA, is about to turn eight and Camilla will be turning ten. I am currently the director of the UTC Climate, Controls & Security program office, responsible with my team for the development of technologies in the space of building automation, security, fire safety and HVAC/R for the largest UTC division.

I am currently in Boston, MA.

Nima Desai, Daytime MBA 2005

I'm enjoying life with my husband, Jigar, and two sons, Rohan (3) and Sajan (1), in Jersey City, NJ. I'm still working at American Express, the company I joined after graduating from Fuqua.

Brian Freeman, Daytime MBA 2004

I live with my wife, Steph, in San Francisco, CA.  Since graduation from Fuqua in 2004, I have worked in Marketing and Sales at Genentech.  This year I will be leading the launch of an exciting new breast cancer therapy called trastuzumab emtansine.

Mick Hannan, Daytime MBA 1995

I'm living in Chapel Hill, NC, with Hannah, Campbell (13) and Zoë (9).  Looking forward to getting our start-up company, Quotient Biodiagnostics, to profitability by year end.

Geoff Imboden, Daytime MBA 1982

I am currently working for Square 1 Bank in the position of Treasurer responsible for interest rate risk, the investment portfolio, capital, liquidity and cash.  The Bank is located here in Durham, NC.  Square 1 is a niche bank that serves the entrepreneurial community by working with small start-ups and the venture capital community. Square 1 was founded six years ago and has assets of $1.5 billion and ten loan production offices located across the United States.

Preeti (Garg) Philip, Daytime MBA 2007, Trinity 2002

Amit Philip (Daytime MBA 2007) and I are living in the Sweetest Place on Earth—Hershey, PA.  Career-wise, I'm working on Global Chocolate Innovation—which has me working on future chocolate innovation for the Hershey Company in the U.S. and abroad.  Outside of work, we're enjoying life with Rohan (3) and are expecting a baby girl in October.  We can't wait to get her into a Duke cheerleading outfit!

I am currently working for Terumo Corp., a Japanese Medical Technology Company.  I'm based in Tokyo, Japan. 
 
Paul Scopac, MHA 1972

I'm in Oneida, NY, about 20 miles east of Syracuse where I am Vice President for Operations & Chief Operating Officer for Oneida Healthcare. We operate an acute care hospital, a large skilled nursing facility, four primary care centers, four specialty practices, and three imaging centers. We're a small ($160 million) rural healthcare system serving two counties in upstate New York. I'm primarily involved in operations, construction management, new business development and special project management.  With the exception of three years as CEO of a 70-provider multi-specialty medical group, I've spent my career in the hospital industry in senior executive operations jobs in academic medical centers and large community teaching hospitals.
