Happy Birthday!

August 15, 2012

Each month, FuquaNet recognizes the alumni whose birthdays fall on the issue's publication date. We asked the alumni celebrating a birthday today (August 16), "Where are you now?" Here's what they said:

Monica Basu, Daytime MBA 1987
I am in Tulsa, OK, working for a charitable foundation creating and managing health care programs for low-income families and in the midst of a second Master's in Health Care Delivery Science from Dartmouth College.

Kathy Haley Brodhag, Daytime MBA/HSM 2009
I'm living in Cincinnati, OH, working in marketing at Ethicon Endo-Surgery (Johnson & Johnson) and having a great summer with my husband. Life is great, and I hope everyone else is enjoying their summer too!

Debbie Erdman, Daytime MBA 1997
Cincinnati, OH!  It is family-friendly and also is a major CPG hub. Ten years later, I am still very happy here.  I recently accepted a role with Epsilon to keep my skills relevant in today's digital world.  I am Director, e-CRM digital and on-line marketing, working with Con Agra, Kraft, P&G and Unilever.

Meghan Gouldin, Daytime MBA 2011
I am living and working in Boston, MA. After Fuqua, I joined Year Up (www.yearup.org), where I serve as Director of Strategic Projects. Year Up is a one-year intensive job training and internship program for urban young adults. In my role I support the COO with management and strategy work, and I also have the privilege of working directly with our students one day/week. We partner with 250+ corporations around the country -- there may even be a Year Up intern in your office!

Stephen Gunstream, Cross Continent MBA 2007
I'm living in Iowa City working for a small biotech tools company. I'm enjoying time with my wife and kids.

Lee Johnson, Evening Executive MBA 1984
After spending the last 25 years in the high-tech and M&A worlds, Mary Deane and I have retired in Atlanta, GA. Our recent grandchildren are, however, in Alaska.

Deepak Joseph, Daytime MBA 2008
I live in Charlotte, NC, with my wonderful wife, Nithya. I am currently a product manager at Bank of America within their Consumer Bank.

Justin Kilgore, Daytime MBA 2012
Upon graduation I decided that I couldn't get enough of the weather, and decided to remain in the South. I accepted a position as a Consultant with Accenture in their Communications, Media, and Technology Strategy practice, based out of the Atlanta, GA, office.

Matt Lehigh, Daytime MBA 2011
After a fantastic startup experience with classmates Barr Blanton and Laura Brown, I recently joined McMaster-Carr's general management program. I continue to reside in Atlanta, GA, where Duke will win its fifth national title when the Georgia Dome hosts next year's Final Four.

Piyush Phadke, Daytime MBA 2008
I am currently working in New York for Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Rachel Scheinberg, Cross Continent MBA 2003
I'm enjoying life in Winter Park, FL. I work with organizations (health plans, hospitals, physician offices, community centers) to reduce health costs by integrating mind-body practices into medicine.

Trevin Sims, Daytime MBA 2003
I am professionally back where I started...practicing law, with perhaps a few more trappings. Now, I also have two mortgages (not by choice), three rambunctious children (thank you Victoria's Secret), and a wife (the same one) I love more today than the day we said, "I do," 16 years ago. So, all-in-all, I suppose I am in a better place than ever before.

Brian Sullivan, Daytime MBA 2005
I am currently living in Pittsburgh, PA, with my wife, Kate, and three wonderful children, Ainsley (6), Amelia (4), and Liam (4). My career has taken me to the H.J. Heinz company where I am currently in a Senior Marketing role with experience across both Consumer Products and Food Service offerings.  Aside from work and family, I still spend my time keeping tabs on Duke hoops, my hometown Boston sports teams, and trying (but mostly failing) to learn to play the guitar.

Geoffrey Swortwood, Daytime MBA 1991
Where am I now? Enjoying a deep-seeded belief that youth is highly overrated and that my 40s are the best time in my life (to date) accompanied with the children, relationships and sense of peace that accompany it!
