Judges Needed for 4th Annual Social Impact Business Plan Competition
October 17, 2012
The Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) is co-hosting the 4th annual Social Impact Business Plan Competition. This competition serves as a platform for identifying social sector initiatives with the greatest demonstrated impact and readiness to grow—and supporting the most promising ones with financial and consulting awards (read about results from past competitions here). We once again hope to engage alumni in this competition as early-round judges, providing feedback on applicants through an online questionnaire.
Expectations of Judges:
- Sign up to become a judge at http://SIEx.us/2013judges.
- Review and score four (4) strategy papers (max 8 pages each) OR two (2) draft business plans (max 30 pages each). These documents will also be reviewed by two additional judges, including Duke University alumni, competition sponsors, and other experts in the field.
- Complete a scoring questionnaire for each paper/plan reviewed. We will provide instructions on scoring and an online tool to enter your results. Entrants will not know the names of those who evaluated their materials, and your scores will remain anonymous to them.
Judging Timeline (more information will be sent via e-mail after you sign up):
- November 19, 2012: Deadline to sign up to be a judge
- Week of December 3, 2012: Conference call providing instructions on judging
- January 7, 2013: Receive online access to materials for review
- January 25, 2013: Deadline to complete review and scoring questionnaire online
The business plan competition is a part of a larger initiative called the Social Impact Exchange. The Exchange is led by the Growth Philanthropy Network with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation, in collaboration with the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and the Center for Strategic Philanthropy and Civil Society at the Sanford School of Public Policy. The Exchange has three primary goals:
- Developing and sharing knowledge on practices for expanding program that work
- Providing venues to collaboratively fund expansion of successful initiatives
- Helping build a field infrastructure for more efficient scaling
