As part of the Duke MBA Energy Club's Week-in-Cities trip to Houston next week, we would like to invite you to a happy hour event! The trip consists of 20 first and second year MBA students visiting energy related companies as part of their off-campus career search. On Monday, October 22nd the club is planning an alumni happy hour near downtown and we'd love to invite alumni to enjoy free appetizers and drinks at this sponsored event.

The Duke MBA Energy Club's Week-in-Cities trip to Houston is scheduled for Thursday, December 15th to Sunday, December 18th. This trip consists of ~15 first and second year daytime students visiting six energy related companies (Exxon, Schlumberger, EDF Trading, Jefferies, Platts, Hornbeck) as part of their off-campus career search. On Friday, December 16th the club is planning an alumni happy hour just outside of downtown and we'd love to invite any alumni in the energy sector to enjoy free sushi appetizers and drinks at this sponsored event.

Fuqua alumni in Houston are invented to gather with fellow alumni at Cova Wine Bar for a happy hour and networking event with admitted students to the daytime program. Several candidates who have recently been accepted into the MBA program will be attending this happy hour in order to learn a little bit more about Fuqua. Join Professor Bob Clemen and a group of current Fuqua students for drinks and discussion on Saturday evening, October 9th, 2010. Bob will talk briefly about Fuqua's growing involvement in energy, including the new Center for Energy, Development, and Global Environment (EDGE), a new concentration in Energy and Environment, as well as Fuqua faculty research related to energy. This event is part of a weekend educational trip for the students. Among other activities, they will be visiting an active small oil-production site, visiting the Ocean Star oil rig in Galveston, touring the Houston shipping channel, and hearing from a number of speakers on topics ranging from economics of energy to investment in energy start-ups. Please join us and meet some of the best Fuqua students with interests in the energy industry. You can be part of their education and help deepen Fuqua's engagement with Houston's energy industry.

Duke Alums Engage is a new program being launched by the Duke Alumni Association in 20 cities. Learn the principles of service learning through this nationwide program that will take community service to a new level.

The Duke Club of Houston has partnered with Teach For America for the Duke Alums event in Houston. Volunteers will come prepared to speak for 15 to 30 minutes to a high school classroom about the importance of a college education and how they utilize the skills developed at Duke in their respective careers.

The Houston Alumni Club recently conducted a survey to determine members' interest in club activities for the remainder of 2009. View the survey results.
There are a number of ways to get involved with Fuqua Alumni Club of Houston:
- Make sure your contact information is up to date in the alumni directory . In order to receive information via e-mail about activities in your region, your contact information must be current. Fuqua alumni are invited to club activities based on their city of residence or employment. Are you only planning to be in Houston temporarily? E-mail the Alumni Relations office , and we can make sure you are on the club's e-mail distribution list.
- Offer to host an alumni event at your business, home, or work place.
- Get involved with club leadership.
- Suggest events and ideas for activities you'd like to see in your city.
- Recommend a personal or professional speaker or make a presentation yourself.
If you'd like to get involved in any way, please contact your club leadership team.
Summer Networking Happy Hour

Thanks to everyone for coming out yesterday to our Summer Networking Happy Hour, held in Uptown Park at McCormick & Schmick's. We dined on $2.95 Cheeseburgers and $1.95 Spinach Dip while we caught up with new and old friends. Please see some pictures of the fun below.
