Get out your business cards! On November 15th, 2012, we'll be hosting the 11th DukeGEN Multi-city Networking Event. The DukeGEN Networking Events provide a chance for entrepreneurial-minded Duke alumni to meet one another. They happen three times a year, and are voluntarily organized by Duke alumni, for Duke alumni, students, faculty and staff.

DC Metro: Alumni and Admitted Student Mixer

Description

Fuqua alumni in the DC metro area are invited to gather for a happy hour to catch up with fellow Fuqua alumni and to welcome newly admitted students. Several candidates who have recently been accepted into the MBA program will be attending in order to learn a little bit more about Fuqua. Come help them make their decision to attend.

The Mad Rose Tavern is near the Clarendon Metro Station. It is across the street from Spider Kelly and the Clarendon Ballroom. Street parking is also available. There is no cost to attend this event. Happy hour specials will run until 8 pm.

Fuqua alumni in DC are invited to join fellow alumni, and prospective students, as Kevin A. Schulman, MD, MBA, leads a discussion on the opportunities and challenges of health care reform. Dr. Schulman is the Director of Fuqua's Health Sector Management Program and is an Associate Director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute at the Duke University School of Medicine. Discussion Topic: Last year we passed health care reform legislation. Health care reform has created tremendous interest in innovation in the health sector as the reform process moves forward. While reform offers the potential for the most significant changes in the health care industry in decades, it has also increased uncertainty in forecasting public and private sector financing for the health sector. Unfortunately, the lack of a debate about the state of healthcare in the US leaves it difficult to assess the impact of reform efforts on the system. In fact, scholars have criticized four different attributes of the healthcare system: access to care, costs of care, sustainability and prevention. During the course of the evening, we will review some of the issues in each of these domains, as well as opportunities for transformative change in healthcare in the future.

The Fuqua Club DC invites you to a Dinner & Dialogue event featuring Mr. T. Reid Lewis, a successful entrepreneur and co-founder of Group Logic, Inc. As an active Duke alum, he is also the co-chair of the Duke Global Entrepreneurship Network (DukeGEN) Task Force. Mr. Lewis will discuss his journey towards becoming an entrepreneur and share tips with the attendees (including how to get involved with the DukeGEN group). This Dinner & Dialogue event will allow alumni a fantastic opportunity to network with a local leader and other alumni in a setting that enables an in-depth interaction with one another. Seating is limited to 10 alumni to allow for good conversation.

Duke Alums Engage is a new program being launched by the Duke Alumni Association in 20 cities. Learn the principles of service learning through this nationwide program that will take community service to a new level.

Join the Duke Alumni Association (DAA), DCW, and Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School for the Fall into Fitness Fair. The Fair will include booths encouraging healthy eating and fitness tips as well as fun physical activities, including a Costume Fun Run to encourage exercise and show off the students? Halloween costumes. There are a number of ways to get involved and help with the fair.
