COLE Launches Peterjohn Leadership Library
(12/05)
The Fuqua/Coach K Center of Leadership and Ethics (COLE) is pleased to announce the creation of the Dorothea F. Peterjohn Leadership Library. The library was created in May 2005 by a generous donation in honor of Dorothea F. Peterjohn, educator and mother of a Fuqua alum. The library will serve as: a premier leadership and ethics resource for academics, practitioners and students worldwide; the nexus of several research and education projects currently sponsored by COLE; an archive for course syllabi from academics worldwide.
The library features the following:
Leadership & Ethics Books: The COLE Peterjohn Leadership Library showcases books and chapter contributions authored by Duke faculty on various leadership and ethics subjects ranging from business to environmental stewardship, over 600 leadership and ethics books, articles and papers; and suggested readings recommended by the COLE center scholars.
Video Archives: The library houses videos from the COLE Speaker Series; select keynote, plenary and concurrent sessions of the annual Fuqua School of Business and Coach K Leadership Conference; and select speeches of corporate leaders from the Fuqua Distinguished Speaker Series. These videos capture the thoughts and insights of top business leaders into current business practices, corporate strategies and leadership and ethics issues.
Interview Series: In addition to traditional research materials, COLE will seek out and interview knowledgeable scholars and business leaders on their experiences in leadership roles and ethical challenges. Interview transcripts will be available on the COLE web site beginning spring 2006.
Course Syllabi, Case Studies, and Working Paper Series: A principal activity of COLE is encouraging and supporting the exploration of leadership issues and ethical behavior, by stimulating world-class research in the study of leadership and ethics. COLE strives to achieve this goal by providing funding for a case study competition and access to resources—course syllabi and working paper series—for the global academic community.
Course syllabi, now available on the COLE web site, will stimulate the creation of leadership and ethics courses and provide a resource for academics considering creating new courses at their universities; the working paper series, which will be available early 2006, will further enhance the sharing of knowledge among top researchers and practitioners in their respective fields and will facilitate the advancement of Leadership and Ethics globally; and the case study competition, which is still been developed, will challenge students to creatively solve problems or formulate opinions on situations taken directly from real business situations.
The library supports COLE’s mission to influence the way students, academics, corporations, government and non-profits think about and practice business leadership and ethics in the 21st century. While portions of the library are still under development, COLE will continually update the web site and book collection as newer material is made available. Alumni, scholars, students and practitioners alike are encouraged to visit the site often.
