Satisfied Patients are the Best Measure of Hospital Quality
Asking your friends and neighbors to recommend a good hospital is the best way to find high-quality care, according to a study from Fuqua. The researchers compared patient satisfaction surveys and clinical performance measures from two large federal databases. Focusing on three common ailments, heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia, the team measured 30-day readmission rates at roughly 2,500 hospitals. read more » |

CMO Survey: Marketers Optimism Rises to Highest Level in Two Years, All Company Indicators Rebound
Top marketing executives at U.S. firms are more optimistic about the U.S. economy and their own companies, with company performance indicators such as revenue, profits and new jobs climbing across the board. These encouraging results come from the CMO Survey, a nationwide poll of chief marketing officers conducted twice annually by Fuqua and the American Marketing Association since 2008. read more » |

Optimistic MBA Grads Have Better Career Prospects than Pessimists
As MBA graduates begin the job search in earnest this spring, new research indicates those with an optimistic outlook about life will have better career prospects than those with a pessimistic disposition. And once in the working world, optimists are more likely to be promoted than their pessimistic peers in the first two years on the job. These are among the findings of a study conducted by Fuqua's Ron Kaniel and David T. Robinson, in collaboration with Cade Massey of the Yale School of Management. read more » |

Shortage of Skilled Workers is Primary Reason for Offshoring Jobs
Most American companies engaged in offshoring say a shortage of skilled domestic employees—not cost cutting—is the primary reason why they move some job functions overseas. These are among the findings of the sixth annual study on corporations' offshoring trends by the Center for International Business Education and Research's Offshoring Research Network (ORN) at Fuqua and The Conference Board, an independent research association. read more »

Alumnae and Prospective Students Connect in a Women’s Brunch Series
The Office of Admissions has initiated a brunch series to connect prospective Cross Continent, Weekend Executive, and Global Executive MBA students with alumnae from those programs. Events have been held in Washington, DC, and Cary, NC, with Kristin Schelin ‘05 and Wendy Webster ‘04 serving as keynote speakers, and a final event is planned for February 26 in Charlotte, NC, where Terri Workman ‘07 will speak. In addition to these speakers, we were honored to have several other alumnae attend and share their MBA experiences. Do you know a high-potential woman who may be considering an MBA? EDGE Executive Director Dan Vermeer Promotes Sustainability in the Middle East
Dan Vermeer, Executive Director of Duke's Center for Energy, Development and the Global Environment (EDGE), travelled to the Middle East this January to help integrate industry-related content into Fuqua's global educational programs. The trip coincided with the Cross Continent MBA Class of 2011's Middle East residency in Dubai, as well as the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

Alumni are invited to participate in the MBA Games auction benefiting Special Olympics of North Carolina (SONC), on Friday, February 18. SONC is a not-for-profit agency providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for over 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities statewide.
