History
The Isle Maligne Society's name is drawn from a chapter in Duke University's history: Isle Maligne (eel ma-leen), an island in the Saguenay River in the Canadian province of Quebec, was the site of one of James B. Duke's largest entrepreneurial ventures.
Mr. Duke realized that when leaders pool their financial resources, they can fulfill grand ambitions and attain lofty goals. The Fuqua School of Business is built on this principle of leadership.
Since its founding in 1983, the Isle Maligne Society has grown from its 40 charter members to more than 1,000 donors. These individuals, who contribute a minimum of $1,000 to Fuqua annually, continue to be the school's leaders and most generous supporters.
Fuqua's Prominence
Fuqua has made great strides, due in large part to the support of alumni and friends. Contributions at the Isle Maligne Society level have enabled Fuqua to support numerous strategic initiatives and innovative programs. No other business school has come so far, so fast—the value of The Duke MBA is both great and growing.
Gifts at the Isle Maligne Society level impact everything we do—from the quality of the curriculum to scholarships, research, technology and alumni, student and faculty initiatives. The future of The Fuqua School of Business and the value of The Duke MBA are directly linked to the leadership and generosity of alumni and friends.
Despite the unprecendented progress that propelled Fuqua into the top tier in only 30 years, much remains to be done.
Levels of Membership
The Isle Maligne Society recognizes the generosity of Fuqua's alumni and friends who have made leadership gifts to the School in two different capacities. Lifetime membership in the Isle Maligne Society is bestowed on alumni and friends who have committed at least $100,000 in cumulative gifts and pledges to The Fuqua School of Business.
