Before you leave campus
Redirect your lifetime e-mail address
Your @fuqua.duke.edu e-mail address is a lifetime forwarding e-mail alias. While you are a student and for a few weeks after graduation, your @fuqua.duke.edu will forward mail to your Duke e-mail account (@duke.edu). Once you are moved to alumni status in Duke's records, e-mail sent to your @fuqua.duke.edu address will be forwarded to an e-mail account of your choosing. To set the forwarding account for your lifetime e-mail alias, fill out a simple online form.
Empty your locker
Daytime MBA and MMS students should empty their lockers by Friday, May 31. After this date anything left in your locker will be discarded.
Pay your balance
You must pay off your balance due at the bursar's office or your diploma and transcript will be held. The Bursar's website has information on payment options. Any balance remaining on your student flex card will be returned to your Bursar's account. If you have no outstanding balance at the Bursar's Office, a refund will be mailed to you at the address you entered in ACES.
Return library books
Before graduation, you must pay outstanding fines and return items to avoid any issues with graduating on time or requesting transcripts. Please consider donating any unwanted books to other students via the Fuqua Book exchange, April 15-May 15.
Purchase software
Students that haven't already downloaded and installed a permanent license for Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office from Duke OIT should plan on signing onto http://dukeoit.onthehub.com to obtain license keys and install media prior to graduation. This is required to eliminate any software authentication or activation issues post graduation.
The license key located on the receipt must be saved or printed in addition to backing up the install media that is downloaded. There is no recourse for obtaining these items after graduation.
For users of VMWare Fusion on the Mac or others that have installed the KMS version (installed prior to October 2012) of Windows or Office that requires activation on Duke's network every six-months, they will need to uninstall the software and reinstall with the version from the On The Hub site. Again, there is no recourse to obtain this permanent license after graduation from Duke. If you have any questions as to which version you have please contact the TSC prior to graduation.
Students may continue to use course related software such as Regress and Crystal Ball for academic purposes only. The current Crystal Ball license will expire in August of 2013.
Return keys to the BMO
If you've been using keys from Fuqua for the bike racks, storage areas, etc., please return your keys to the BMO before you leave.
Complete copying or scanning projects
Because your Duke card will no longer be valid after graduation, any copying or scanning that requires the large Xerox copiers in the Keller East computer lab and the Fox Center student communications area should be completed prior to graduation.
Finish your database research
Your access to many library databases ends at graduation. This is because vendor license agreements do not allow the library to extend access to non-students. Alumni may continue to access many databases while visiting the Ford Library, excluding a few that are restricted by vendor agreements to current students only. Check the "Alumni Services" menu on the Ford Library web site to see a list of the library databases subscribed especially for alumni.
Check your parking permit
If you're going to be in Durham over the summer, your parking permit is valid until August 15.
In the months following graduation
Check out pictures and videos of graduation
Approximately a week post-graduation, you will have access to pictures and videos of graduation. We will send out an e-mail with this information and details on how to order pictures. You will be able to find the pictures and videos once they are updated using the links below:
- Graduation Pictures: www.dukeshots.com
- Graduation Video: YouTube | iTunes
Give us your new address
About a month after graduation, you may update your profile information using the Fuqua alumni directory. You may continue to access the Fuqua alumni directory using the same login ID and password you used as a student.
Migrate e-mail from your Duke account
You may access your Duke e-mail account (you@duke.edu) for approximately one year after graduation. You will not receive warning that access to your Duke e-mail is about to be cut off, so you are strongly encouraged to stop using your Duke e-mail account after graduation and set your Duke e-mail account to forward any incoming messages to another e-mail account. If you have questions about your Duke e-mail account, please contact Duke's Office of Information Technology.
Wrap up work in My CareerCompass
Daytime, Cross Continent, Global Executive, Weekend Executive, and MMS graduates who have maintained active status in My CareerCompass will continue to have access until August after graduation. If you are seeking employment after August, you may apply to receive guest access through December after graduation. Please note: Access to My CareerCompass after graduation does not include the ability to participate in the on-campus interview process.
Positions that are appropriate for new graduates are typically posted in both My CareerCompass and the online alumni job listings, unless the employer requests otherwise. (Recent MMS graduates will have continued access to eRecruiting until July 31, 2013.)
While you can continue to use My CareerCompass to access job postings between graduation and August, you will also want to familiarize yourself with the online alumni listings since that will be a resource for years to come.
Connect with your CMC Career Coach
If you are currently working with a CMC career coach, you are welcome to continue doing so. S/he is happy to provide support in person, by phone, or by e-mail as your post-graduation search progresses. Alumni-specific career coaching services typically begin 3 months after graduation.
If you are not actively working with a CMC coach, but would like to make an appointment, please contact cmc-info@fuqua.duke.edu or +1.919.660.7810. Please indicate your recent graduation date and program, as well as the functional and/or industry focus of your job search, so that the meeting can be arranged with the career coach whose focus is most closely aligned with your background and interests. For specific database searches that can aid you in your job search and career development, a good place to start for an overview of Library and CMC Resources for Alumni is this January 2013 webinar.
Clear out your H: drive
Daytime, Cross Continent, Weekend Executive, and MMS graduates may use their Duke Net IDs until September 30 after graduation. Your Net ID allows you to access to FuquaWorld, the Fuqua VPN, public PCs at Fuqua, and your H: drive. It is recommended that you begin to remove or archive data from your H: drive well before September. CD-RW drives are available in the Fuqua main computer lab. To learn more about backing up your information visit: https://it.fuqua.duke.edu/drivemap.htm
Finish any work on the platform
Global Executive, Weekend Executive, and Cross Continent MBA graduates may access the platform for six months graduation.
Transfer ownership of Team Tools folders
Daytime and MMS graduates may access Team Tools until August 31 following graduation. Team "owners" who are graduating may transfer ownership to another team member through the edit feature in team tools. Click on "Adjust add/delete privileges" and select the team member to whom ownership will be transferred and then save your changes. Team ownership transfers should be completed by July 31 following graduation.
Check out the Duke alumni directory
Duke students who graduate in May can access the Duke Alumni Directory starting May 31. The directory includes contact information for over 140,000 Duke alumni around the world. The Duke alumni directory requires a log-in and password that is different than your Fuqua log-in credentials. To learn more, visit the Duke alumni web site.
Keep an eye out for your Duke Alumni Card
All Fuqua graduating students will receive a Duke Alumni Card. For the next several weeks, you may pick up your card from the Duke Alumni Affairs office in Forlines House on Chapel Drive. After that, your card will be mailed directly to the address on file in the alumni directory. Your Duke Alumni Card comes with several privileges.
After you receive your alumni card, this allows you the opportunity to have building access to Fuqua going forward. If you are an alumnus/a who requires continued access to Fuqua (exterior doors, computer lab, and the team rooms), you may make your request to the Building Management Office at operations-bmo@fuqua.duke.edu. Please remember that Fuqua's exterior doors are unlocked at the following hours: Mon-Fri - 7am-9pm; Sat - 7am-5pm; Sun - Locked.
Wrap up or extend your gym membership
Memberships between May graduation and June 30 are now available on a yearly or monthly basis.
We now offer the following option: Monthly membership $30.00
On July 1, 2013, a new membership year starts, and the annual fee for alumni is $224. If you would like to access the gym July 1 and after, you must pay the $224 annual fee or the $30 monthly membership.
Extend your health insuranceIf you enrolled in the Duke Student Medical Insurance Plan, Daytime and MMS students are covered until July 31. Students who purchased health insurance through Duke can buy extended insurance for up to 6 months after graduation. You will receive an e-mail from student health with further details. After 6 months extension, you may purchase short-term medical coverage.
Note: Immediately after graduation, your Student Health Fee expires. This health fee enabled you to have access to services at the Duke Student Health Center during the school year as a full-time student at Duke. After graduation you must see a private doctor; your health insurance will help cover the cost of the private doctor.
