Lange, Brian
Class of '05
GlaxoSmithKline, Marketing Director
Brian Lange is a Marketing Director at GlaxoSmithKline, based in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina. He is responsible for the launch of several late-stage development assets, working within GSK's Respiratory business unit. Prior to joining the company in 2011, Brian worked for six years in a variety of brand management roles within Johnson & Johnson, including leadership of brands such as Children's TYLENOL, SPLENDA and JOHNSON'S Baby. Before enrolling at Fuqua, he spent several years working within the Health Care Consulting practice at PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He holds a BA in Economics and Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and received his MBA from the daytime program at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He is happily married to his college sweetheart, Stacey, and they have three children - Carter, Campbell, and Colby. While it may raise the ire of some of his fellow alums, Brian and his family happily reside in Chapel Hill.

Lee, Chen-Lin
Class of '05
Facebook, Inc., Strategy Lead
Chen-Lin Lee joined Facebook in 2010, supporting their large accounts sales team. He leads global projects in sales operations and process improvement, product support, and vendor management. He was previously at Google as a Strategy and Operations Manager, also supporting their large accounts media sales team.
Before entering the online media world, Chen-Lin was at General Electric and was selected into their world-class Experienced Commercial Leadership Program. He was also formerly a consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, managing sales force effectiveness and CRM implementation projects.
Chen-Lin received an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University.

Lew, Phillip

Cisco Systems, Director of Engineering Operations & User Experience
Phillip Lew is a seasoned executive with nearly 20 years of experience leading teams to build and launch products at technology start-ups as well as at Fortune 500 companies. He is currently the Director of Engineering Operations & User Experience in the Network Management Technology Group at Cisco Systems. In this role, Phillip oversees a globally- distributed team responsible for the development and commercialization of network management software products. Phillip resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, including with his two young daughters (ages 2 & 4). He graduated from the University of California at Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and from the Fuqua School of Business with a Master of Business Administration.

Marchese, Kelly

Deloitte Consulting, Principal
Kelly Marchese is a partner in Deloitte’s Supply Chain practice in the Americas and has fifteen years of supply chain and operation’s management experience. She leads projects in both the Consumer Business and Manufacturing industries. Kelly prides herself on leading clients through complex transformations. Kelly began her career as a manufacturing engineering at GE. After four years of steel-toed shoes and fashionable protective eye wear, she returned to school for her MBA at Fuqua. During her consulting career, Kelly has led engagements in supply chain and process excellence for JDSU, Cargill, Talecris Biotherapeutics, SoloCup, US Navy, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. Within Deloitte, Kelly has become known for her expertise in Lean/Six Sigma (certified master black belt) and her leadership roles in Fuqua recruiting and the Women’s Initiative. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband of fifteen years, chasing her four-year-old daughter…and in those few remaining moments, playing golf.

McConnell, Mike

One NorthChase, President, ASMBA
Mike McConnell is the President of the Armed Services Mutual Benefit Association and the ASMBA STAR Foundation. He is a former Air Force command pilot with over 4,000 flying hours. During his Air Force career he served as a crew commander, instructor pilot, squadron commander and group commander as well as in staff positions at the Air Staff, Strategic Air Command, Air Combat Command, and the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as an international political military affairs specialist. After leaving the Air Force, he served on the staff of a member of Congress and then joined the staff of a large international technology corporation where he evaluated new technology opportunities. He also participated in two start-up companies as director of marketing and business operations. He has a bachelor's degree in business from Texas A&M University; a master's degree in management from Abilene Christian University. He is also is a graduate of the National War College and has studied international affairs at Creighton University and Catholic University. In 1999 he graduated from Fuqua with an MBA. He is married to Dr. Dorenda McConnell (Doughtie) who is Dean of Faculty at a college in Georgia.

McKenzie, Phil

FREE DMC , Managing Partner
Philip L. McKenzie is Managing Partner of FREE DMC, an influencer marketing agency that specializes in integrated marketing strategy, digital content creation, and experiential events. He is also the Founder of Influencer Conference, a global conference bringing together tastemakers in the arts, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and technology to discuss the current and future state of influencer culture.
After completing his MBA at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, Philip joined Goldman, Sachs & Co where he worked in Domestic Equity Trading. His first trading responsibilities were in the health care sector followed by a role in consumer products where he traded companies such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Proctor & Gamble and McDonalds to name a few. Philip is a passionate supporter of the arts. He has been a Supporting Partner of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre since 1999. He is also a Junior Associate of the Museum of Modern Art and a member of the Apollo Circle of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is a rabid music fan and spends his summers attending as many Dave Matthews Band concerts as humanly possible.
Prior to his Duke MBA, Philip earned a bachelor of business administration from Howard University specializing in finance with a minor concentration in philosophy. Philip resides in Brooklyn but travels extensively wherever the wind takes him.

Michielsen, Erik

Capture Your Flag, Founder and President
Erik Michielsen is the New York City-based founder of Capture Your Flag (www.captureyourflag.com), where he is pioneering Near Peer Learning as a means to help students and professionals more fully realize ambitions and aspirations. An expert interviewer, Michielsen facilitates knowledge sharing by interviewing a set of up and coming leaders annually, charting their respective development over time. Interviews are segmented by question, creating knowledge rich and thematic driven video learning experiences used by millions worldwide.
Before Capture Your Flag, Michielsen honed his passions for interviewing, emerging technology, and knowledge sharing as an executive with boutique research firm ABI Research, where he advised the world's leading media and technology firms on next-generation market opportunities. Erik has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, FOX News, and spoken at major conferences worldwide. He guest lectures to leading academic programs across the country, including Columbia University and Vanderbilt University. He is a board member and advisor to non-profit Kilifi Kids (www.kilifikids.org) and its mission to eradicate child malnutrition by using mobile health solutions. He holds an MBA from Duke University and a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan. Erik loves competing in both cooking competitions and long distance races, including both the 2009 and 2010 New York City marathons.

Miller, Maggie

Marketing Scout Consulting, Principal
Maggie Miller has worked in consumer marketing since graduating from Fuqua. She held positions of increasing responsibility with leading CPG companies including P&G, Unilever, Georgia-Pacific, and Avon, before returning to school in 2003 for a Master of Science in Marketing degree, focusing on brand strategy and consumer understanding. Following that, she was Vice President of Marketing for Symrise, a leading global fragrance development house in New York, and then became Executive-in-Residence in Marketing at Elon University in North Carolina in 2007. She taught graduate and undergraduate marketing classes while launching her consulting business, Marketing Scout, and then chose to focus on her business full-time in 2011. She provides marketing strategy consulting services to a variety of clients across industries, including Fortune 500 firms as well as small businesses. Maggie lives in Chapel Hill, NC with her beagle, Scout, where she remains devoted to the Blue Devils and enjoys having time to play golf!

Mittal, Vikas

Accenture, Senior Manager
Vikas Mittal is a Senior Manager at Accenture in its Talent and Organization Performance practice. With a primary focus on public organizations (i.e. government agencies, not-for-profit organizations and higher education institutions), Vikas has spent the last ten years helping his clients achieve business and strategic values in the areas of analytics, business processes, systems integration and HR operations. Vikas serves on the New York City Academy Advisory Board helping students in struggling schools graduate, attend college and launch careers. In addition, he is an active member of several NYC political organizations.
Vikas completed his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and Economics at Columbia University in 2000 and was a member of the Cross Continent MBA Class of 2006 at the Fuqua School of Business. A native of West Texas, he currently lives and works in New York City. Outside of work, Vikas enjoys the outdoors, reading and of course, Duke athletics. Forever Duke.

Nolan, Susan

Fifth Third Bank, Corporate Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Susan Nolan is Corporate Senior VP / Human Resources for Fifth Third Bank where she is one of the 300 member leadership team which manages 22,000 employees. She is Chief Human Resources Officer for the bank in Georgia and is a member of the leadership team reporting to the Georgia President. This team develops and implements the strategy to achieve the ambitious growth goals in Georgia. In addition Susan is a member of corporate wide teams focused on leadership development and employee engagement.
Susan has a unique combination of strategy, management, operations, customer service and human resources experience with Fortune 500 companies.
Prior to joining Fifth Third, she was VP / Human Resources with SunTrust Bank at their headquarters. There she was a strategic partner with corporate senior executives/ business unit heads and their leadership teams. In that role she served as a both a strategy consultant - organizational design, business definition, modeling, business processes - and human resources business partner - talent management, succession planning, career pathing for high potential executives. One retention initiative she led resulted in a 20 point reduction in turnover (from 55% to 35%) in one year in the bank's six call centers.
During her long career with Delta Air Lines, she served in a variety of management, operations, customer service and human resources roles. In one of those roles she managed 13 direct reports responsible for 3,000 employees. In another role Susan was responsible for company-wide communications for the customer service technology project that set the stage for airport kiosks worldwide. On 9/11/2001, as a member of the leadership team of Air Logistics she and her fellow executives spearheaded a crisis management effort, leading front line employees to clear out a mammoth warehouse of thousands of pounds of freight in an hour. Immediately prior to joining SunTrust, Susan was Delta's Corporate Manager of Talent Management, responsible for aligning all corporate talent management programs, strategies and deliverables to business strategy with oversight for 60,000 employees.
Susan is a graduate of North Georgia University with a B.S. in Marketing. She graduated from the Fuqua School's Advanced Management Program in 2008. She has her SPHR certification [Senior Professional in Human Resources] from the Society for Human Resource Management.
Susan resides in Atlanta, GA with her husband, Harry, also a graduate of Duke where he was an Angier B. Duke Scholar. He is head of a management consulting firm he founded in 1982. Also a big Duke basketball fan! Susan and Harry created the Duke Chapel Nolan Endowment which supports domestic Christian mission projects of Duke students.
