For recruiters who conduct just-in-time hiring, the spring is the perfect time to find great talent! Companies can work with the CMC in a number of ways to identify candidates. Two of the best ways are advertising on our job posting form and/or reviewing our resume books. Both options are free! To order the spring resume books, please contact your account manager. You can also advertise directly to our student clubs. The Duke MBA Association Web site provides links to all of the club Web sites. Feel free to contact the club presidents directly to discuss marketing your position. 2008-09 Recruiting Registration Registration for 2008-09 recruiting begins May 1, 2008 for Equity Partners and May 12, 2008 for all other companies. Companies that recruited on campus in 2007-08 will be e-mailed instructions regarding the registration process later this spring. If you did not recruit on campus in 2007-08 and are interested in doing so in 2008-09, please e-mail our employer services team to be included in this mailing. Please see our 2008-2009 recruiting calendar for important dates. At the end of this newsletter is a list of Equity Partners for 2008-09. These companies are recognized for having invested $5,000 or more at Fuqua during the current (2007-2008) academic year. If you have questions regarding your company's past or future giving to Fuqua, please contact Stephen Windham, Associate Director of Corporate Relations at +1 919 660 7710. Recruiting at Duke will change in the 2008-2009 academic year. Our goal is to allow you, our recruiting partners, to meet the best and most interested candidates during your campus visits. Your account manager will contact you in the next few weeks to discuss the structural changes for company presentations and career fairs.
This year, two training programs will be offered at Duke University, featuring some of the leading national authorities on recruiting: Selection Interviewing: June 11 Strategic College Recruiting: June 12 - 13 For detailed information on these programs or to register, please visit the Recruiting Workshops Web site or call the workshop coordinator at +1 919 660 7673. Are You Missing Great Interns? Many of our international students arrive at Fuqua having held significant responsibility, with experience managing cross-functional teams, and with extensive knowledge in their professional area of focus. They exhibit valuable insight, managerial experience, and cultural perspective. With their cross-cultural business intelligence, language skills, and global experience, international students can contribute to your organization in many ways. From a company perspective, there is no difference in hiring an international student for an internship compared to a domestic student. There is no additional cost or paperwork required, and international students' Tax ID numbers function identically to domestic students Social Security numbers for HR purposes. Facts about hiring international interns:
For more information on recruiting international Duke MBA students, please visit the Duke International Office Web site or contact Steve Dalton, Associate Director for International Affairs, at +1 919 660 7811. Videoconferencing at The Fuqua School of Business Videoconferencing is a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative for reaching out to Duke MBA students. Below are some common questions and answers pertaining to our videoconferencing system.
A common practice at recruiting events is for employers to give away company logo merchandise, such as coffee mugs, key chains, or notepads, to all participating students. This is a visible way to demonstrate commitment to Duke MBA recruiting and to showcase the company and/or its products. Yet packaging, shipping, and distribution – which are necessary to make the giveaways possible – consume natural resources and create waste when extra products are left after the event. Beginning in the 2008-2009 academic year, employers are prohibited from distributing giveaway items to all students attending their corporate presentation, office hours, or career expo exhibit. This policy includes logo merchandise and company products, and applies to any employer conducting school-facilitated recruiting on Fuqua’s campus or at a nearby location such as the Washington Duke Inn. We hope this new initiative will emphasize interactions between employers and students as the focus of the recruiting process, while also reducing cost, fuel use, effort, and waste associated with the packaging, shipping, storing and distribution of company giveaway items. We are happy to support company efforts in building brand awareness among Duke MBA students. Employers may pursue one or more of many options to achieve maximum visibility during their recruiting event. Some options include CMC-produced employer summaries in advance of each event, donations to selected causes supported by the Fuqua student community, a small number of prize items raffled off to students and coupons for company products or services. For more information about our new policy and more alternative options, please see our green policy online. Duke MBA Career Management Center staff additions
