Access MBAs
Many Fuqua MBAs and alumni seek opportunities to utilize their business skills for social impact. Gain access to their skills, passion, and expertise:
Host a board associate (Triangle-area organizations only): The Fuqua on Board program matches Duke MBA students and local alumni with Durham area nonprofits to serve as non-voting board members during the course of the academic year. Over the course of a seven-month apprenticeship, pairs of students work closely with a board mentor, participate regularly in board meetings and attend relevant committee meetings. Students serve as non-voting board associates, gaining valuable insight into the inner workings of nonprofit organizations while providing the nonprofits with fresh perspectives and critical business skills. Hire a Fuqua MBA: An increasing number of Fuqua MBAs are seeking to apply their business skills and experience by working in the social sector. CASE manages two financial aid programs to help reduce the financial barriers to pursuing summer internships or full-time jobs with nonprofits: the CASE Summer Internship Program and Loan Assistance Program. Host an intern during the academic year (Triangle-area organizations only): Many Fuqua MBA students seek unpaid internships with for-profit or nonprofit social-purpose organizations during the fall or spring. They may receive academic credit for these internships through participating in a Mentored tudy in Entrepreneurship. Students commit to spending at least 2 hours per week on-site and at least 8 hours per week on assigned tasks over a eriod of 14 weeks. While the course is designed for students to identify organizations where they would like to gain experience, at times, students seek recommendations for organizations interested in hosting an intern. Please fill out this short online form if you would be interested in having your organization included in a database of potential host organizations or interns interested in social entrepreneurship. (Note: we need to create a basic survey monkey form for organizations that includes org name, mission, website, contact info, and very brief description of project opportunity or intern needs)
Work with an MBA consulting team (Triangle-area organizations only): Fuqua’s Small Business Consulting program offers students an academic course in which small groups of MBA students work with local businesses and nonprofits on issues of strategic interest over the course of an academic year. Each year, about 20% of the Small Business Consulting program is composed of nonprofit organizations. Engage Fuqua students in volunteer activities (Triangle-area organizations only): The Social Impact Club, a Net Impact chapter, is a student-led organization whose mission is to provide resources and support to Fuqua students interested in effecting positive social change. With a current total of 250+ student members, SIC has been able to reach much of Fuqua's student body through a variety of events. The SIC Community Involvement team organizes a range of volunteer experiences for Fuqua students, faculty, and partners to get involved in the Durham community.
