The Fuqua/Coach K Center on Leadership & Ethics (COLE) was established in 2004 by Duke University's Fuqua School of Business in collaboration with the Kenan Institute for Ethics, and Duke University Athletics. Through this dynamic partnership, the center leverages the intellectual resources and practical experiences of leading academic and practitioner institutions and individuals (both within Duke University and from outside the university) to respond to today's need for ethical leaders and their leadership development.

COLE's core mission is to deepen and extend the way that academics, students, and practitioners think about and practice ethical leadership in the 21 st century.

COLE aims to achieve this by:

COLE’s activities are broad but focused, providing numerous opportunities for involvement and learning to academics, students and practitioners. From supporting academic research to developing new leadership electives for MBA students, offering cutting edge executive education courses and hosting the Fuqua School of Business & Coach K Leadership Conference, the center is at the forefront of leadership and ethics education and research.

For Faculty, COLE develops and disseminates ideas and information through sponsored research, publications (case studies and research papers), conferences, workshops and presentations. For Students, COLE develops and offers curricular and extracurricular programs, supports student initiatives (such as the student-run Leadership Development Initiative & annual conference) and develops leadership and ethics-related resources for Duke's MBA and executive students. For Practitioners, COLE offers cutting-edge executive education courses, innovative educational materials and publications, and hosts the annual Fuqua School of Business & Coach K Leadership Conference.

At Fuqua, the center serves as an umbrella for leadership activities within the school and a bridge to leadership and ethics efforts throughout the university by working closely with various groups to build on existing programs as well as in developing new ones.

COLE convenes leading scholars and corporate leaders world-wide to advance key leadership and ethics issues. Under the direction of Faculty Director Sim Sitkin and Managing Director Sanyin Siang, the Center has recruited a cadre, Center Scholars, Visiting Scholars, Executives-in-Residence, and Management Team to help advance its mission. Duke Men's Basketball Coach, Mike Krzyzewski, author of best-selling business books on leadership, has joined the Center and Fuqua's faculty as an Executive-in-Residence, teaching and writing on leadership and ethics during the off-season.
