In 1972 Metrolina Greenhouses was founded by Tom and Vickie VanWingerden who immigrated to the US from The Netherlands. They moved to Charlotte, NC in the spring and rented a 20,000 square foot greenhouse on Old Statesville Road. Metrolina just celebrated its 40 year anniversary.They have grown to over 150 acres, 650 employees and over $150 million in sales.They are a leading supplier of bedding plants in the US.Metrolina has grown through its focus on technology and people. Along the way, Tom Wingerden developed automated transplanters which are in use today in many greenhouses across the country. Abe and Art are Co-CEOs of this very successful family owned company. They will discuss Metrolina’s journey to becoming a leading greenhouse company and will discuss their plans for continuing their growth. The tour will be a feast for the eyes and a wonder to behold acres after acres of beautiful flowers.The working greenhouses in Hunterville, NC displaying the technology and the people that make it happen.
