Dan Ariely Reading and Signing
March 13, 2008 | DURHAM, N.C. –- The Fuqua School of Business will host a reading and book signing by Duke Professor and alumnus Dan Ariely, author of the best-selling new book Predictably Irrational .
Tuesday, April 1
7:00 p.m.

The Fuqua School of Business
Duke University
Praised by Time magazine as “a fascinating romp through the science of decision-making that unmasks the ways that emotions, social norms, expectations and context lead us astray,” Predictably Irrational ascended the New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-seller lists within weeks of publication.
Writing in the spirit of Freakonomics and Blink, Ariely draws on years of research in behavioral economics to explain why we all do irrational things, and what we can do to stop this behavior.
How do arbitrary forces influence what we’re willing to pay for certain items? Why is getting something for free not always a good deal? And what makes “honest” people cheat and steal? Predictably Irrational details Ariely’s own research on these topics and more, and reveals some startling insights into human nature.
Ariely is currently a visiting professor at Duke University, where he recently introduced a new course in behavioral economics; in July 2008 he will assume permanent joint appointments in The Fuqua School of Business, Duke’s Economics Department and Duke’s Center for Cognitive Neuroscience.
