Fuqua Ranked No. 2 Overall in Net Impact Student Survey of Graduate Business School Programs

DURHAM, N.C. –- Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business has ranked No. 2 overall in the first edition of Business as UNusual: The 2006 Net Impact Student Guide to Graduate Business Programs.

Net Impact’s mission is to improve the world by growing and strengthening a network of new leaders who are using the power of business to make a positive net social, environmental, and economic impact. The information in the guide was compiled from surveys of nearly 1200 Net Impact MBA student members and thirty-nine student chapter leaders. The survey questions covered areas related to social impact curricula, career services, and support for student activities.

Net Impact Executive Director Liz Maw noted, “Net Impact is pleased to introduce Business as UNusual: the 2006 Net Impact Student Guide to Graduate Business Programs. We were impressed with the enthusiasm of the Duke MBA students who answered the survey; they speak more positively about the opportunities in their program than almost any other group. Fuqua has become a true leader in social entrepreneurship and other Net Impact-related issues.”

Fuqua achieved the No. 2 ranking by placing in the top ten in fourteen of twenty categories, including No. 1 in “strong in social enterprise” and “students found an internship that utilizes their values and business skills” and No. 2 in “helpfulness of fellow students.”

Among other things, Fuqua students reported that “Fuqua’s greatest success in the social impact area comes from the partnerships between the students, the faculty, and the administration” and that “the entire school – not just the Social Impact Club – is interested and actively developing skills in leadership, ethics, and teamwork.”

“I am delighted that the leadership and accomplishments of the Social Impact Club and the Center for Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) have been recognized by these new rankings from Net Impact," Fuqua Dean Doug Breeden said.

Fuqua promotes social entrepreneurship and ethical leadership in part through two cutting-edge research and education centers – CASE and the Fuqua/Coach K Center for Organizational Leadership and Ethics (COLE). According to the co-presidents of the Social Impact Club, Fuqua’s Net Impact chapter, “The values of social innovation, responsible decisions and strategies, and ethical leadership are widely accepted tenets of Team Fuqua.”

“The growing passion and enthusiasm of Fuqua’s students for issues related to social and environmental impact has impressed me in recent years,” said Beth Anderson, CASE managing director. “This ranking is a fitting tribute to the progress they have made in institutionalizing the Social Impact Club in a relatively short period of time.”
