Sax/Baldridge Annual Award Announced

May 24, 2004

DURHAM, N.C. - The Sax/Baldridge Annual Award was recently announced at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

This award is given each year to the Small Business Consulting Teams in the management communications course that performed the most outstanding work for their respective clients. The judging was done based on the following criteria: diagnosing the most important needs of the organization, quality of the conclusions, soundness of recommendations, detailed implementation plan, written report and final presentation to the client.

"It was very difficult to decide the winners as most teams performed very well," said Bill Sax, executive-in-residence. "Collectively as a group, this was probably the strongest set of teams that I have had the pleasure of working with in the seventeen years since I have been directing this program," he noted.

The first place was awarded to a team working with the North Carolina Justice and Community Development Center. The winning team consisting of all first-year students included Pali Bhat, Tim Lessek, Samira Madhany, Nick Palmisciano, Tahseen Tajuddin and Mike Walsh. A team whose client was Affinergy received the second place. Two teams tied for the third place: a team working with Huntington Learning Center and the one working with Atlantic Spa & Billiards.

On average 12 to 14 clients participate in this program with approximately 70 to 80 first- and second- year students taking the management communications course.
