Statement on Attempted Database Breach
March 03, 2005
A single applicant to Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business tried unsuccessfully to gain access to his admission decision using information posted on BusinessWeek’s B-school Forum.
This person was blocked because Fuqua keeps all of its admissions data in a separate and secure internal enterprise system. Fuqua’s admissions decision information is not posted to ApplyYourself’s system until the notification is sent to the applicant. This method adds another layer of security to the process used at Duke.
“The way that Fuqua has designed the systems used to support admissions processes reflects the importance we place on security and privacy,” said Nevin Fouts, Fuqua’s associate dean for information technology.
