Two Alumni of Duke's Fuqua School of Business Die in Plane Crash
October 24, 2005
Durham, NC —Two alumni of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business died Saturday night in a small airplane crash in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, the school announced Tuesday.
Dean Douglas T. Breeden said Gregory (Greg) Peter Kyprios graduated in 1994, and Luis (Lou) Modesto Marina graduated in 2004. “They were among our finest,” Breeden said.
The cause of the crash is still under review by the National Transportation Safety Board. It said preliminary results of the investigation showed that the Lancair Columbia 350 airplane, owned by Kyprios since June, went down just north of Walton Peak, Colorado. Hunters told local authorities they saw the plane flying low and heard sputtering noises and several backfires.
Both men lived in Steamboat Springs and worked for KittyHawk partners, a management consulting firm for high-tech and aerospace companies. Both served in the U.S. armed forces.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, as is a list of each man’s survivors.
