Procter & Gamble CEO Assumes Duties as Board Chair for Duke University's Fuqua School of Business
November 04, 2011
DURHAM, N.C. – Procter & Gamble Chairman of the Board, President and CEO Bob McDonald has officially assumed the position of Chairman of the Board for Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. McDonald will be chairing the school’s biannual meeting beginning today.
Also taking on new responsibilities is Ron Nicol, Senior Partner and Managing Director of Global Practices for BCG, who will serve as the Board’s Vice Chair.
Procter & Gamble has a long history of involvement with Fuqua’s Board as general members and has actively recruited Fuqua graduates for positions with the company. In 2010, McDonald addressed Fuqua students as part of the school’s Distinguished Speaker Series. He has also been a regular participant in the annual Coach K Leadership Conference convened by Fuqua’s Center on Leadership and Ethics, as well as appearing at several of the school’s marketing conferences.
“More so than at any time in history, business is the point of connection for global engagement,” said Fuqua Dean Bill Boulding. “Business schools have an incredible opportunity and responsibility to prepare global leaders of consequence. If we manage that engagement well, we can make the world a better, safer and more secure place. This is a tremendous responsibility and opportunity and I am grateful that we have the support of a dynamic board led by Bob McDonald and Ron Nicol to guide us.”
“I am proud and excited to be the new Chair of The Fuqua School of Business’ Board of Visitors,” McDonald said. “Fuqua’s vision to globalize is exciting and will certainly have a positive, meaningful impact on students’ lives all over the world. I am humbled and glad to have the opportunity to contribute to this transformation at such an important time.”
The Board meeting will include a session in which students interact with Board members to gain their perspectives about the school’s plans. Some Board members will attend this weekend’s annual conference organized by Fuqua’s Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club, “Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Funding in a Brave New World” or the meeting of Fuqua’s Health Sector Advisory Council (HSAC). The HSAC meeting features addresses from former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and Brookings Institution Senior Fellow Alice Rivlin discussing parallels and contrasts between health care reform in the U.S. and China.
