New Faculty Appointments
August 18, 2010
The Fuqua School of Business welcomed four new faculty members for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Peter Ubel has joined Duke as the John O. Blackburn Professor of Business Administration. Ubel is one of the foremost scholars applying the basic social science of decision making to medicine, and was formerly a Professor of Medicine and Psychology at the University of Michigan. He will be a member of Fuqua’s marketing area and affiliated with the Health Sector Management program. Ubel also holds a joint appointment with the Sanford School of Public Policy.
Gráinne Fitzsimons has joined Duke as an Associate Professor of Management with a joint appointment in Duke’s Psychology and Neuroscience department. Fitzsimons came to Duke from the University of Waterloo, where she was an Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair in Social Cognition in the Department of Psychology. Fitzsimons studies basic social psychological processes underlying relationships, including how relationships affect the ability to achieve our goals, as well as how goal pursuits affect the quality of interpersonal relationships.
Aaron Kay has also joined Duke as an Associate Professor of Management with a joint appointment in Psychology and Neuroscience. Kay was previously an Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on processes of social cognition, with applications to justice and stereotyping. For example, his work explores how basic individual motivations to see the world as just influence perceptions of social systems such as organizations and governments.
Russ Morgan has joined Duke as an Associate Professor of the Practice of Marketing. An expert in marketing strategy, Morgan received his Ph.D. ('98) and MBA ('88) from Fuqua. He has held teaching positions at Duke and the University of Utah, and has extensive litigation consulting experience in the areas of antitrust and consumer fraud.
