Duke - The Fuqua School of Business

Employer Support

Because you will be fully engaged at both work and school, Fuqua requires that you receive a letter of support from your employer (proprietors or principals of a company can provide a letter of self-support). At a minimum, employers must approve your work absences for the time you are in residency. When seeking support, it might also be a good time to discuss workload expectations with your boss as your school workload will be significant. This letter of support should be included with your application and written on your company's letterhead.

It is in your best interest to start the conversation with your employer before beginning your application. We have found that some employers provide full or partial financial sponsorship, while others only provide support for work absences. Financial sponsorship from your employer is NOT a requirement for acceptance to the program. This section will help you start the process and show you sample requests from other students along with tips to help strengthen your position.
