Curriculum - Advanced Management
Business as usual? No such thing.
In a landscape characterized by Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA), organizations need a radically different approach to develop their leaders, ensuring these individuals can navigate what's in play now and what's coming next.
Our curriculum is designed to equip Advanced Management Program (AMP) participants with an understanding of current dynamics, helping them to develop a vision for what is on the horizon, and then applying historical data points for a complete view. Ultimately, you will learn how to think, rather than what to think.
Rick Voirin covers the 10 leadership skills that are essential for leading in a VUCA world.
Learn By Doing
The Advanced Management Program (AMP) incorporates unique and engaging metaphoric learning experiences that go well beyond basic role play or simple corporate visits—you will learn by doing. The experiences are designed to take you out of your familiar work role so you can learn new skills and gain a new perspective that is applicable to any corporate setting.
Guided by a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist, you'll fine-tune your communication skills by becoming a magazine writer for a day. You'll attend a press conference and conduct interviews to learn how perspectives and assumptions can drive storylines, and how to distill a very complex and evolving story down to the compelling ideas that can shape opinions and change minds.
Duke Basketball Experience
Working with Duke's coaching staff, on the Duke basketball court, you'll become a member of a highly competitive, high-performance team and learn how to communicate your organizational values in a way that can shape your entire organization. You'll learn how to deal with conflict, how to perfect team building strategies, and how to overcome leadership challenges.
The Innovative Apprentice
In a realistic board room, you'll compete for a chance to be The Innovative Apprentice. With your team, you'll create an actual business strategy for a local charity, one that drives positive change and growth. Randal Pinkett (pictured), season four winner of NBC's The Apprentice, will judge your proposal based on its effectiveness.
Pit Crew Challenge
This experience takes you into the fast lane. You'll join the pit crew of a Canadian NASCAR driver and his crew chief, where, under race conditions, your team will learn to change 4 tires as quickly as possible. Working in such an unfamiliar environment, you'll draw on classroom lessons in execution and build teamwork skills through collaboration, communication and coaching.
Integrative Medicine Program
We'll focus on keeping you on the go, without sacrificing your long-term health. At Duke Integrative Medicine you'll discuss the factors that impact your physical, mental and emotional well-being. You'll learn simple exercise, nutrition, and relaxation techniques designed to help you stay healthy and fully engaged in all aspects of your life.
