Finance Concentrations

Three Options:

There are 3 finance concentration options: Concentration in Finance (Corporate), Concentration in Finance (Investment) or a Dual Finance Concentration. To receive 1 of these concentrations, a student must take at least 6 electives that are beyond the required core courses, and are from the set of electives specified for each concentration.

Option 1: Concentration in Finance (Corporate)

This concentration is designed for the following career paths: Corporate Finance, Venture Capital & Real Estate, and International Finance. Students should note that electives may have pre-requisite requirements. In addition, not all finance electives are offered each year, and most electives are offered once per academic year.

FINANCE 647 — Investment

Choose 1 of the following courses:
ACCOUNTG 592 — Corporate Financial Reporting
ACCOUNTG 597 — Financial Statement Analysis
ACCOUNTG 598 — Valuation & Fundamental Analysis

Choose 1 of the following courses:
DECISION 611 — Decision Models
DECISION 613 — Strategic Modeling and Business Dynamics

Choose 2 courses from the following set of finance electives:
FINANCE 651 — Entrepreneurial Finance
FINANCE 654 — Advance Corporate Finance
FINANCE 658 — Corporate Restructuring
FINANCE 660 — Venture Capital & Private Equity
FINANCE 661 — Raising Capital: Financial Instruments, Institutions & Strategy
FINANCE 898 — Project Finance

Option 2: Concentration in Finance (Investment)

This concentration is designed for the following career paths: Asset Management, Private Wealth Management, and Research, Sales & Trading. Students should note that electives may have pre-requisite requirements. In addition, not all finance electives are offered each year, and most electives are offered once per academic year.

Choose 1 of the following courses:
ACCOUNTG 597 — Financial Statement Analysis
ACCOUNTG 598 — Valuation & Fundamental Analysis

Choose 1 of the following courses:
MGRECON 781 — Global Economic Environment of the Firm
DECISION 611 — Decision Models
DECISION 614 — Forecasting

Choose 2 courses from the following set of finance electives:
FINANCE 648 — Derivatives
FINANCE 653 — Fixed Income Securities and Risk Management
FINANCE 656 — Global Asset Allocation & Stock Selection
FINANCE 657 — Financial Engineering
FINANCE 663 — International Finance

Option 3: Dual Finance Concentration (Corporate and Investment) 

Students wishing to obtain a dual concentration in Finance (corporate and investment) are required to complete a total of 10 courses which are broken down below. Students should note that electives may have pre-requisite requirements. In addition, not all finance electives are offered each year, and most electives are offered once per year.

Choose 2 additional courses from either the corporate elective set or the investment elective set.

Finance Certificate

A certificate in finance is also available. Students wishing to obtain the Certificate of Academic Excellence in Finance are required to complete a total of 12 courses. Learn more about requirements for the Finance Certificate.
