Daytime Estimated Costs and Expenses
The estimated annual Cost of Attendance (COA) includes both educational and living expenses based on 9 months (the academic year) of off-campus housing in the Durham area. Tuition and fees are subject to change each year. The estimated COA can be used to determine total financial aid eligibility.

COA figures are subject to change. Your financial aid award letter will include a COA sheet that will reflect any changes in these estimated expenses.
Financial Aid Cost of Attendance (COA)
The COA used in the financial aid process is established by Duke University to meet required tuition and fee expenses and provide a reasonable allowance for living expenses during the academic year. The university establishes average monthly allowances for living expenses in the Durham area that must be used in the financial aid budget. The living allowances assume that expenses are shared or that a spouse will work to cover the shared portion of the living expenses. Summer living expenses are not included since you are not enrolled during the summer.
COA Adjustments
If there are dependent children who will require child care, an allowance may be added to the student budget. You must be able to provide written documentation of these expenses based on actual costs in the Durham area. The loan origination, guarantee, or insurance fees charged for student loans (deducted at disbursement) can be added to the standard COA. The amount to be added is determined by the loan programs for which you apply. This expense will be added before the loan applications are certified and transmitted to the lender for approval.
