Happy birthday!
We asked the alumni below, celebrating a birthday today, May 18, "Where are you now?" Here's what they said...
Valerie Dahmen MMS '17
I relocated to London five years ago, where I work in sales and trading as a vice president at Citi in EM rates. London quickly became home, making the trip to Germany to squeeze my nieces a lot easier. I retired from hockey but continue to cheer for my Blue Devils (and, of course, my alma mater) from afar as college sports remain a passion of mine.
Tom Elliott MBA '76
We are just passing Ship Island in the Clarence Strait of Alaska in our 54’ Trawler. We’re making our annual 2,000-mile voyage up the Inside Passage from northern Washington to the wilds of Alaska. Carpe diem!
Ken Gacevich MBA '93
After twenty-six years as an institutional investor and ten years as an entrepreneur, my wife and I currently reside in Charlotte, NC. I’m now involved with RevTech Labs, an accelerator focused on fintech and insurtech startups, as a general partner in the associated venture capital fund. I now have some extra time to pursue some interests I never had the time for in the past.
Lauren Gad MBA '13
I live in Denver with my husband, Max, and 14-month-old, Emma, where we love to hike, ski, and be outside whenever possible! I work in brand management at Danone, leading the Happy Family brand - all parents look out for Happy Baby and Tot at your local store! We close on a new house tomorrow, and are excited to have a lot more room for Emma to run around!
Matt Jaffe MBA '10
My family (Rebecca, Leah - 10, Seth - 7) and I live outside Philadelphia, where we've been for eleven years now. I currently work as the business operations lead for the Integrated Drug Development consulting division of Certara. I keep myself busy practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, cooking for my family, and cheering on my kids at their sporting events. The picture above is from a recent family trip to Aruba.
Xue Kailiang MMS '22
I’m working in Shanghai now and always miss the lovely people I met at Duke. This is a picture taken with my brothers in Durham. Keep in touch, guys!
Sanggoo Kang MBA '99
I am still in Seoul, Korea, running an AI-driven genomics company, MedySapiens. Recently in the late last month, I went on to Washington DC and Boston on an economic mission with Korean President Mr. Yoon Seok-yeol in response to Mr. Biden's invitation to the White House. The photo shows me with Hugh Kang, my younger boy in the Duke Blue "Class of 2025" t-shirt in his East Campus dormitory room. So proud of him!
Jennifer McGann MBA '17
We’ve been living in Chicago since graduating from Fuqua in 2017. I met Luis at Fuqua (also a Daytime 2017 grad), and this is us at a friend’s wedding in Cuernavaca, Mexico. I currently work in strategy at Thermo Fisher Scientific and Luis has his own startup, Sanarai.
Meghan Pelley MBA '13
I live in London with my partner and our two morkies. In 2019 I followed a lifelong dream of returning to the UK to be closer to my Scottish family and explore Europe. I recently worked as a global PMM at TikTok, and in the New Year, I left to join my father’s wealth management firm as COO. I’m celebrating my 40th birthday in Crete. Cheers Fuqua!
Jeffrey Rieske MBA '14
I live in Philadelphia with my wife, and I lead pharma R&D tech strategy at ZS Associates. I enjoy traveling and recently completed a lifelong goal to visit all 50 states.
Henry Wang MBA '10
I’m living my tech dream in Silicon Valley, getting paid by Google, but trying hard not to Google how to be a good dad. As a family of three, we’re planning to travel internationally twice a year in search of my daughter’s dream unicorn with a rainbow-colored tail.
Carlo Zorzoli MBA '06
After many years abroad, I am back in my home country, Italy. While I used to travel a lot for work, the recent pandemic taught us that we can achieve a lot while traveling less, so I now divide myself between Rome, where my office is, and a small village, Vignale Monferrato, in Piedmont where we are refurbishing a small house. I love skiing with my family- here is a recent picture from the Dolomites. As far as my profession is concerned, I lead the business development team of Enel Green Power, a global leader in renewable energy.
