We asked the alumni below, celebrating a birthday today, October 26, "Where are you now?" Here's what they said...

Laurent Chen MBA '15
I recently returned to Shanghai, China, after an extensive one-month business trip in the U.S., followed by a delightful 10-day family vacation in Spain and France. We had a great time in Madrid, Seville and Barcelona. I am currently working for a real estate development and investment group in the Bay Area and leading the firm’s Chinese operation. So I frequently travel between China and U.S. almost every quarter. Hope to catch up with all Fuqua alumni in Shanghai or the Bay Area!

I’m raising awareness of the Professor Marian Chapman Moore Fund for Ovarian Cancer Research. The fund focuses on early detection of the disease that caught us both. I am a lucky survivor (two times over!), but Marian succumbed in 2021. She was my sister, mentor, and best friend- although I shared the last two titles with many. Marian taught at the Fuqua School of Business for three decades, where I was fortunate to be her student. Here we are in Durham in 1985 and nearly 40 years later in Charlottesville, where she retired from Darden. She is dearly missed!

After living in London for a few years, we moved to the Sacramento, CA, area in 2020 and have been enjoying the constant sunshine. This past weekend, my husband Michael, my daughter Kaena, and I flew to Portland, Maine, to visit my son, who just started his freshman year at Bates College, where he is studying linguistics. My husband and I celebrated our 20-year wedding anniversary a few weeks ago (10/10)! Anyone in the Sacramento area, I would love to connect with you; my email is StephanieFox777@aol.com.

We recently moved to Charlotte, NC, after living in Seattle and Austin since graduating. I've enjoyed exploring our new city with my wife, Khushboo (a fellow MBA '19 Fuquan), and our pup, Ollie.

Emily Herman MBA '23
Since graduating, I've moved out to Fort Collins, Colorado, and started as a Global Talent Management Partner for operating companies in the Water Quality segment of Veralto- a public company which spun off from Danaher at the start of Q4 2023. It's a unique opportunity to be part of a company that's brand new yet already part of the S&P 500, and I'm excited to see what's to come. That said, the most important post-MBA job I've had was serving as the maid of honor in my sister Annie's wedding in mid-October.

After graduating from Duke, I joined Dell Technologies (where a ton of Fuqua alumni are!), and I currently work on the procurement analytics and strategy team. Thanks to the remote working policy, you will find me working in Europe, Asia, or now, by the beach while practicing my newly picked-up hobby, surfing!

Impacted by the tech recession of 2023, we seized the opportunity to check off our bucket list with a memorable family camping trip to Yellowstone National Park. These moments of natural wonder provided a much-needed escape, leaving me rejuvenated as I look for my next career adventures after wonderful years working in product management at Cisco.

We are living in Seattle, not far from Chateau St. Michelle (in the picture), where the four of us - Adam (MBA '10), Rose (8), Everett (4), and I - were enjoying a concert in September. I’m rounding out seven years at Amazon, working in Product, and Adam is running Finvari, a fintech startup. Hardly a day goes by without a Duke connection. GO DUKE!!!

I am happily retired and living in Chattanooga, Tennessee, after a 36-year career in healthcare administration on both the hospital and physician practice management sides. Although retirement got off to a rocky start with a pandemic, I am enjoying family time, improving my golf game, traveling, exercising, tasting fine wine and bourbon, Labrador Retrievers, and experiencing all that life has to offer. Attached is a picture of Sharon and me from a trip to Prague, Czech Republic, during the Christmas holiday season.

After being an executive in the healthcare and university industry and spending 19 years at PwC providing professional services to these organizations, I am thrilled to have just joined Korn Ferry, providing executive search services. Here are some pictures of a fantastic trip to Egypt I took through Duke Travel.

I’m still in San Francisco (2-year plan turned into 26) and recently hit 20 years at Wells Fargo working in payment strategy. Family-wise, wife and two boys, my oldest is a sophomore at Emory University, and my second is a senior in high school. Here is recent photo of the four of us unwinding in Mexico. Also, I had the pleasure of catching up with my class of ‘97 back in 2022 at the Fuqua Reunion – looking forward to our 30th!
