A journey from the military to Fuqua to investment banking

Trevor Fabian MBA ’24 finds confidence and success in Team Fuqua

Photo of Trevor Fabian MBA '24My journey began with a challenging childhood of familial and economic instability in a small town in southeastern Wisconsin that shaped my character and my ability to persevere through adversity. My experiences have given me resilience, faith, and a commitment to making a difference.

I found early career success and a passion for finance as an intern at Northwest Mutual, but a yearning for a deeper sense of purpose led me to join the U.S. Air Force, where I served as a SERE specialist and later as a Special Tactics Officer. The military not only tested my physical and mental endurance but also honed my leadership abilities and deepened my commitment to serving a cause greater than myself. As a result of my experiences and a desire to give back, I co-founded LifeCampUSA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children who have lost fathers in U.S. military or law enforcement service.

After medically retiring from the military, I was at a crossroads and, after much reflection, decided to pursue an MBA. For me, the MBA is a gateway to new opportunities, a continuation of my journey, and a means to make a significant impact. Fuqua's emphasis on creating a community where decency, support, and a drive to make a positive difference are as valued as academic and professional achievements resonated with me and made choosing Fuqua a natural decision. Fuqua's strength lies in its ability to bring together students from different backgrounds to form a cohesive and mutually supportive community—an ethos that has profoundly enriched my educational experience. The curriculum has given me practical skills and knowledge that prepared me for a challenging investment banking internship and helped build my confidence to be a direct contributor.

Upon completing my studies at Fuqua, I plan to pursue a career in the investment banking sector, and perhaps channel my entrepreneurial spirit as well by acquiring and managing a small business. I remain deeply committed to making a meaningful impact in the nonprofit sector and using my skills to address societal issues and pressing global challenges. I aim to grow LifeCampUSA to become a nationally recognized organization, and I would like to explore establishing another nonprofit focused on combating human trafficking.

In sharing my story, I hope to convey to alumni that their contributions do far more than provide financial assistance. You inspire, empower, and open doors for students from all walks of life, contributing to a legacy of excellence and service at Fuqua and beyond.
