The program begins in July 2014 and is ideal for pre-experience students
In conjunction with the launch of Duke Kunshan University (DKU), Duke's Fuqua School of Business is unveiling a new master's program which gives students a front row seat to two of the most dynamic economies in the world: the United States and China.
The one-year Master of Management Studies: Duke Kunshan University (MMS: DKU) program will enable students to study for three terms at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and two terms in Kunshan, China, at the new DKU campus. Kunshan is a short train ride from Shanghai.
The program begins in July 2014 and is ideal for pre-experience (limited work experience after earning an undergraduate university degree) students who aspire for a career in global business. Students earn a Duke degree with a DKU experience.
"We live in world marked by leadership deficits and global disruption," said Fuqua Dean Bill Boulding. "As a business school, we therefore need to be embedded and connected in key regions around the world to prepare our students to address global business challenges. MMS: DKU further helps us live out this strategy, while providing our students with a transformational educational experience."
The MMS: DKU program will operate on the same admissions calendar as the Master of Management Studies: Foundations of Business (MMS: FOB) program, which was launched in 2009. To ensure a high quality learning experience, much of the curricula of MMS: DKU and MMS: FOB will be the same, with location being the key differentiator. The MMS: DKU students will benefit from a Duke University educational experience and a cultural immersion in China, while MMS: FOB is based solely in the US with an optional international Global Academic Travel Experience.
"This format for MMS: DKU best positions us to deliver a high quality program that helps students learn the fundamentals of global business: strategy, economics, accounting, operations and finance," said Boulding. "As a result, students will graduate with a broad skill set that helps them improve their marketability and expand their career options."
Fuqua will manage the admissions process for both programs. The first application deadline is November 5. The tuition for the MMS: DKU program will be commensurate with other world-class pre-experience master's programs and will be posted once approved by appropriate oversight agencies.
Career services offerings for MMS: DKU will be of the same quality as those offered in other Fuqua programs. A career services representative will be based in China to support students studying at DKU and facilitate corporate visits and guest speakers from the region.
While in Kunshan, MMS: DKU students will live in DKU campus housing. In Durham, students will live on Duke's Central Campus or make their own short-term housing arrangements (six months).
