Bio
Dan Vermeer is Associate Professor of the Practice at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and founding Executive Director of the Center for Energy, Development, and the Global Environment (EDGE), which works at the intersection of global environmental and societal challenges and business strategy. His current work focuses on the energy transition, ocean innovation, and the environmental and social footprint of artificial intelligence.
He teaches MBA and executive courses including Energy Markets and Innovation; Climate, Sustainability, and Corporate Governance; and AI Footprint, which examines how AI's growing demand for power, water, and materials is reshaping corporate strategy and public policy. He is co-founder of ClimateCAP, a coalition of more than 50 business schools integrating climate into management education, and co-founder of Oceans@Duke. He writes In the Watershed, a newsletter on business, energy, and sustainability in transition.
Before joining Duke, he led the Global Water Initiative at The Coca-Cola Company. He holds a BA in psychology from Hope College, an MA in cultural anthropology from the University of Virginia, and a PhD in learning sciences from Northwestern University.
