Prima Zhang

We interviewed Prima Zhang, MQM: Business Analytics student from Guanzhou, China, who graduated from Sun Yat-Sen University in 2017, about her career search process. She recently accepted a job as a Business Intelligence Analyst with Wayfair in Boston.

What process did you follow to get your job offer?

I attended Career Management Center (CMC) workshops to explore my interests and prepare my resume. I also made one-on-one appointments with my CMC coach, Meredith, to tailor my resume and prepare for interviews. I applied through GTS (Fuqua's own job posting platform) and got invited to the first round interview via skype. Having passed that, I went through an on-site interview consisting of three rounds in Boston.

To what factors do you attribute your success?

I majored in biology in undergrad, which means that I didn't have any coding background before coming to the MQM: Business Analytics program. But now I'm qualified for an analyst position, all because of MQM. The program has transformed me from a science student to a business professional. I'm grateful for the courses, the workshops, my classmates and the CMC coaches.

What advice do you have for those who will be job searching in the MQM: Business Analytics program in the future?

Explore in summer, gear up in fall (on-campus recruiting), network in winter (off-campus recruiting), and sprint in spring. Apply for as many jobs as possible, but target 3-4 companies specifically. Make good use of all the resources available to you, and most importantly, be confident!

MMS: Foundations of Business

Lindsey Walker

We interviewed Lindsey Walker, MMS: Foundations of Business student from Tampa, Florida, who graduated from the University of Florida in 2017, about her career search process. She recently accepted a job in management consulting with PwC Advisory in Dallas, Texas.

What process did you follow to get the job?

I networked with several people within PwC Advisory and ultimately was fortunate enough to receive a referral. From there, I was able to apply through a referral pipeline which streamlined the application process. In between each stage, I talked to as many MMS alums as I could who had received an offer in previous years and learned as much as I could about the role and the company.

To what factors do you attribute your success?

I could not have made it through the consulting recruiting process without the help of the Career Management Center (CMC).  My career coach, Lisa, really helped me navigate the process and showed me all the case resources available for Fuqua students to use and prepare. Additionally, the Career Advisor for MMS (CAM) program exceeded my expectations, and the guidance from not only my CAM but also people he referred me to was instrumental in my interview preparation.

What advice do you have for those who will be job searching in the MMS: Foundations of Business program in the future?

Don’t view rejections from companies as failures, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. I was rejected from the first five companies I applied to and was just about ready to throw in the towel.  However, everything happens for a reason, and once I took a deep breath and asked for help, everything changed.  There are so many people at Fuqua who are willing to help you throughout this overwhelming process, and they can make all the difference!
