"Prior to Fuqua, my only direct exposure to the subjects in the core curriculum was at Uplight, which I joined after the Marine Corps. The case studies, associated frameworks, and conversations with classmates have given me a broader perspective. This, plus the confidence that comes from studying and case study analyses, has helped me become a more effective teammate, leader, and thinker."

Reflections
One of the residency experiences that stood out to me most was our visit to Endeavor Peru, a leading accelerator program for early-stage startups. We listened to founders talk about their products and services and share their motivations for starting companies. The founder of one of the companies, a bakery with a dozen storefronts, described how the local need he sought to address through the business venture was providing high quality employment to women. The method for achieving this goal was launching the bakery business with his wife, who had a passion for baking. It was an inspiring conversation, accompanied by some delicious samples!
Before starting at Fuqua, my position was Chief of Staff at a high-growth B Corp startup providing technology solutions to energy firms in support of their decarbonization and electrification strategies. Before this role, I had served in the Marine Corps for six years as an intelligence officer in infantry units.
I hope to assume positions of greater responsibility on teams focused on preserving our natural ecosystems and mitigating the destructive impact climate change has on people. Fuqua has equipped me with a range of tools and perspectives I will certainly draw upon, as well as classmates to collaborate with and seek advice from.
How to Maximize Your Experience in the Global Executive MBA Program
I suggest spending time in reflection before each residency, considering both what you want to get out of the residency and what you can give. Some residencies I found myself needing solitude to escape the noise of my day-to-day work, so I would carve out time to go for long walks and runs. It was a great way to explore new places! It’s equally important to consider what support you can offer others during the residency period. Some of my peers were exemplary at this, they would intentionally reach out to others prior to residency and set aside time to help someone think through a career move or just be a friend during a difficult time. Take care of yourself and each other.
