Bio

Patrick Cai is a senior partner and managing director of Cypress Capital Group (CCG), a Shenzhen-based company specializing in equity deals involving venture capital, private equity, and mergers & acquisitions. The first company of the group was founded in 2007, and it currently has total assets of over RMB14 billion under management throughout the group. Since its inception in 2007, the group has made investments in 50+ deals, with over 20 of them going public already and generating an average rate of returns of 10 times.

His current tenure covers an entire spectrum of management and operation roles and responsibilities in private equity business. His investment interest remains tilted towards franchises such as healthcare, TMT, and retail-related deals. Between 2001 and 2007, he served as CEO of Vanguard Express International Co., Ltd. (VEI), a pioneer company in China serving both institutional and individual investors on their growing demand for assets management and financial advisory services. Under his leadership, VEI had fulfilled almost all major objectives of their investments. In addition, he acted as COO of NYC-based Proteus Capital, undertaking a number of assignments involving Wellpoint, Dupont, and Convergy’s as clients.

Patrick assumed the position of the country head for Conseco Global Investments (Greater China Region) from 1996 to 2001, successfully managing then the eighth-largest U.S. life insurer’s investment activities throughout the Greater China Region. He served as a business manager in early '90s at Janssen Pharmaceutical, a major pharmaceutical member company under the Johnson & Johnson group.

He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Software & Telecommunications from Beijing University of Posts & Telecommunications, and he pursued a master's degree in biomedical engineering at McMaster University of Canada. He also received an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
