Bio

James currently serves as Head of Equity Research Asia ex Japan and Head of Asian Telecom Research for J.P. Morgan, based in Singapore. He has been covering emerging markets since 1996, and has been based in Asia since 1998. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan he was a Managing Director responsible for Millennium Partners investment portfolio involving Asian telecom, media, and internet companies, a role he held since January 2009. Preceding this, he managed similar Asian-sector portfolios for Citadel Investment Group (Hong Kong) and Oaktree Capital (Singapore). James has also provided consulting services to Starhub, a listed Singapore Telecom/Pay TV operator; and Kong.com, a listed Chinese Internet company. Prior to joining Oaktree in 2003, James served as a Vice President in Asian Equities Research at Credit Suisse First Boston (Bangkok) where he achieved top three rankings from Asia Money for his coverage of Asian Telecom Service operators and media companies. Prior to that, he was a Director in the Mergers Acquisitions & Advisory Department at The Quant Group (Bangkok). Before that, he spent four years with IBM, most recently serving as a Global Account Manager in the IBM Telecom & Media Group covering Time Warner, based in New York. He was also involved in IBM’s efforts in emerging market trade finance and internet strategy consulting.

James received an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in Political Science from Marist College. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and has lived and worked in Washington DC, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bangkok.
