Optional essay: Tell us more
If you feel there are circumstances of which the admissions committee should be aware (such as unexplained gaps in work, choice of recommenders, or inconsistent or questionable academic performance), please explain them in here. Although we call this section “Optional Essay,” your explanation does not need to be essay-length and may only be a few sentences depending on the topic
Submit your required resume electronically within the online application system. For employment and volunteer positions, include the location, title, date, and responsibilities, starting with your most recent position. The education section should include dates of attendance and degrees received.
Your resume should include:
- Full-time Employment
- Volunteer work
- Internships
- Part-time work experience
- Education
Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required for the MQM: Health Analytics program. Your recommenders must complete the current recommendation forms associated with the online application—no other format of recommendation will be accepted.
Your recommenders must also submit a 1-page letter (uploaded through the online recommendation form) highlighting:
- Your interpersonal skills (effectiveness in establishing and maintaining relationships; working with peers, supervisors, and subordinates; and willingness to work in a team environment)
- Your potential areas for improvement or growth
At least one recommendation should reflect your performance in a professional setting. Volunteer activities or other service-oriented roles in which you are deeply involved may also be excellent sources for recommendations.
We only accept official recommendations via the online application system. Submissions by email or mail are not accepted.
Other recommendation guidelines:
- You are required to use the recommendation forms that are within the online application
- Use your recommenders' work email addresses, rather than their personal accounts, like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, and so on.
- Recommendations from relatives and friends are strongly discouraged.
Bonus recommendation from Fuqua students and alumni:
In addition to the two required recommendations, you may provide additional recommendations from our current students or alumni.
If one of these recommendations is sent on your behalf before you submit your online application, you will be eligible for an application fee waiver.
You must take either the GMAT or GRE prior to submitting your application. Self-reported scores are accepted with the application, and official score reports sent directly from the testing agency will be required after admission and before the program begins. If you are not satisfied with your score, you may retake the exam before submitting your application. If you take the exam multiple times, only report your highest score and any sub-scores from the same testing date.
For mid-career candidates with concerns about taking the GMAT, please contact the admissions office to discuss alternatives.
GMAT and GRE details:
- There is no minimum test score requirement.
- We will accept scores up to 5 years old.
- GMAT scores take approximately 3 weeks to reach the admissions office.
- GRE scores take 4-6 weeks to reach the admissions office.
Admission system test codes:
GMAT: Duke program code Q13-N5-99
GRE: Duke program code 5156, and the 4201 Business Administration and Management Department name

Application fee waivers
You may be eligible to receive an application fee waiver if you meet at least one of the following criteria:
Before submitting your application, you register for and attend a recruiting event. Attend an admissions event, and in the online application indicate the event type, location, and month of attendance in your online application. Current Fuqua students must complete the online peer recommendation form, while Fuqua alumni must complete the alumni recommendation form. In your application, include your recommender’s name, program (Daytime, Weekend Executive, Global Executive, Master of Management Studies: Foundations of Business, Master of Management Studies: Duke Kunshan University, or Master of Quantitative Management: Business Analytics), year of graduation (if known), and email address.
Instructions to apply for an application fee waiver:
- Meet at least one of the above criteria.
