Reflections

My experience at Fuqua has given me a new lens on entrepreneurship. Previously, I had a product/engineering-centric view of starting a company. Fuqua gave me a safe space to explore my interests, strengths, and weaknesses. As I start my own company, I’ll leverage this self-awareness to build a well-rounded leadership team.

Before Fuqua

I was an individual contributor in a software product management role. My day-to-day job consisted of designing, building, and launching new software products using the latest developments in cloud technology.

After Fuqua

I plan to leverage my newly acquired financial analysis, leadership, and strategy skills to scale two multimillion-dollar businesses within my current company and launch a venture-backed startup with a Fuqua classmate.

Advice

All of the time you spend studying and going to class is time away from housework and your relationship. Be upfront with your partner about the time commitment of balancing work and school. On average, it’s about a 10–20-hour time commitment per week; it often spills into nights and weekends. If you can, outsource housework where possible so you can continue to make time to invest in your relationship. Most importantly, tell your partner that you love them and how you appreciate that they are an integral part of your success in the program.
