Why I Chose Fuqua

Having gone to Duke for undergrad, I knew several former MMS: Foundations of Business students who loved the program, and I knew it would be a perfect fit for developing more qualitative skills. My undergraduate degrees were in statistics and computer science, both of which were highly technical and quantitative. I was excited to see how I could apply my quantitative mindset to finance, accounting, and business analysis, while also gaining a more qualitative and creative perspective through classes such as marketing and strategy. I also can’t ignore the influence of Fuqua’s exceptional reputation and alumni network – they were the icing on the cake.

Before Fuqua

I have interned at Under Armour and with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers networks. In these roles, I learned how to use my quantitative skills in a business setting. I wanted to refine those skills further at Fuqua and feel like the MMS program has helped me do just that.

After Fuqua

I’ll be moving to Boston to work as a business data analyst at DraftKings. My time at Fuqua was integral to my ability to succeed in the case portions of the interview and having increased confidence in my ability to apply my analytics skills in business contexts.

5 Places You Absolutely Must Eat at in Durham

  1. Guglhupf: A German bakery and café with great indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance is killer, but the meals and sweet treats are even better.
  2. Grub: A cute café that looks like an old gas station. The food is excellent and, when the weather permits, their rooftop seating is one of the best spots in Durham.
  3. Sushi Love: An absolute local favorite. They have amazing rolls that are always buy-one-get-one-free. You have to treat yourself at least once before leaving Fuqua!
  4. Monuts: Probably the best breakfast in town. They not only make delicious donuts but all of their food is made from scratch. It's also a living wage certified restaurant.
  5. Bull McCabes Irish Pub: A great place to hang out on a sunny day or warm night. This place is all about the location and vibe but has some great bites nonetheless.

What I Love About Durham

Durham is a perfect mix between urban, suburban, and rural. You are never too close or too far from anything. It’s easy to walk downtown and grab an ice cream at The Parlour or take a short drive out to Maple View Farms. I’ve lived here for five years and am still discovering new spots to get coffee, run, or just hang out and enjoy the view.
