Having gone to Duke for undergrad, I knew several former MMS: Foundations of Business students who loved the program, and I knew it would be a perfect fit for developing more qualitative skills. My undergraduate degrees were in statistics and computer science, both of which were highly technical and quantitative. I was excited to see how I could apply my quantitative mindset to finance, accounting, and business analysis, while also gaining a more qualitative and creative perspective through classes such as marketing and strategy. I also can’t ignore the influence of Fuqua’s exceptional reputation and alumni network – they were the icing on the cake.
I have interned at Under Armour and with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers networks. In these roles, I learned how to use my quantitative skills in a business setting. I wanted to refine those skills further at Fuqua and feel like the MMS program has helped me do just that.
I’ll be moving to Boston to work as a business data analyst at DraftKings. My time at Fuqua was integral to my ability to succeed in the case portions of the interview and having increased confidence in my ability to apply my analytics skills in business contexts.
Durham is a perfect mix between urban, suburban, and rural. You are never too close or too far from anything. It’s easy to walk downtown and grab an ice cream at The Parlour or take a short drive out to Maple View Farms. I’ve lived here for five years and am still discovering new spots to get coffee, run, or just hang out and enjoy the view.
