“I’m more flexible in my ideas now. My teammates are some of the smartest people I have ever worked with. I have learned to trust that they have things to show me, and I have learned academically and personally from my experience working with them.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

My interviewer stressed that this degree would be transitional, not transactional. No other program seemed to put such a premium on people through team-based learning. In my work experience, I found that teams are how work gets done. I knew a program that had a focus on teams would prepare me well for the professional world. I was looking for a graduate business program that could pivot my career and my skill set towards business. I’ve found a perfect fit at Fuqua.

Before Fuqua

I have been a chef, white water rafting guide, a bartender, server, worked in start-ups, worked for a congressman, and worked in education outreach for a non-profit. I realized business would be a perfect skill set to make a change and apply my passion and so I enrolled in MMS.

After Fuqua

I would like to work in supply chain management or operations for a manufacturing firm. My courses in strategy, operations, and market intelligence have really developed my understanding of this area, and our team-based coursework has equipped me for collaborative work in the future.

5 Best outdoor activities in Durham

  2. Falls Lake State Park has some fun beginner mountain biking trails and a public sand beach to swim around in the summer.
  3. The Al Buehler Trail in the Duke Forest right across from Fuqua is a great loop to run or walk.
  4. Duke Gardens is a beautiful oasis near Fuqua.
  5. Asheville and the mountains are only a 3-hour drive away, and the beach is about 3 hours, too.
