“Over the course of the program, I’ve networked with professors, alumni, industry leaders, and fellow classmates. This has allowed me to explore other industries and different functions from mine and certainly broadened my horizon as a leader.”

Reflections

Fuqua is a capabilities accelerator for acquiring skills I would otherwise have only been able to learn through years of experience. This includes a wide variety of disciplines from accounting to consulting to entrepreneurship. I learned and perfected effective styles of communication. From submitting papers through team assignments to creating business proposals and financial documents, I gained valuable knowledge and perfected all styles of communication used by business leaders every day, across industries and positions.

Before Fuqua

I oversee two full-service restaurants (one of which is Forbes Five-Star rated), two bars, a 24-hour room service facility, and a world-renowned catering and banquet venue. With 155 employees and 22 managers as my direct reports, I focus on strategy, planning, operations, general management, human resources administrations, analytical functions, budgeting, and daily financial decisions.

After Fuqua

My goal is to move over to the "rooms-division" side of our business, first as a Hotel Manager then later as a General Manager.

Advice

Take advantage of the full scope of learning at Fuqua. Classroom lectures are only the surface. Real studying happens through your team assignments, and when you truly apply your concepts at work. Make sure you do your relevant readings (you will not be able to do it all) and participate in team assignments. Be brave and try out what you have learned!
