Why I Chose Fuqua

The primary thing that attracted me to Fuqua was the people—every interaction I had with Fuquans was amazing, and I met so many very intelligent, yet humble, people. I also felt confident that coming to Fuqua would help me both elevate my leadership skills and access the companies I wanted to recruit with. Last but not least, I really appreciated Fuqua’s support for partners. As an international partner, my wife was going to have visa limitations for work, so I needed a school that fully welcomed partners and would allow her to integrate into the community. I have definitely found this at Fuqua—here, partners are not only welcome to join our clubs for certain activities, but they also have their own organization that allows them to connect with other partners.

5 Random Things About Me

  1. I enjoy meeting new people because each person has a story I can learn from. But I do not like to meet braggers; I find humility to be a more useful feature.
  2. I am afraid of flying in small planes, which I realized when I took a date on an aerial city tour. My date laughed at me when she realized I was afraid the four-seat Cessna was going to crash. She eventually became my fiancée, and she still laughs when she remembers that day.
  3. I enjoy gardening and cultivating my own fruits and cooking spices. My backyard has papayas, Chinese tangerines, figs, lemons, bananas, grapes, mint, basil, peppermint, parsley, sweet pepper, rosemary, oregano, and thyme. All in just 130 square feet!
  4. I like collecting banknotes and coins, and the ones I currently have represent more than 60 countries. Most of them are from the places I have visited.
  5. Fishing is one of my passions. From deep water fishing to trolling, I’ve tried every style and won prizes in various categories.

My Life Before Fuqua

Before Fuqua, I worked with Sinopec as a petroleum geologist based out of Beijing. I had the opportunity to launch a startup, an online food retailer that targeted foreigners living in China. In 2014, Sinopec transferred me to a project in Venezuela, where I helped with strategic planning and new business development at local and regional levels.

My Life After Fuqua

After Fuqua, I would like to develop a career in management consulting. I am using my time at Fuqua to develop these skills both in the classroom and through extracurricular activities. As a member of the Consulting Club, I receive resources and guidance to succeed in my future career. I also frequently use resources available at the Ford Library to stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends.
