“I am by nature a relational and humble leader, and while I still am, I now have more courage to be authentic and even vulnerable. From leadership courses and guest speakers, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of leadership. It’s not something where one size fits all but what style truly fits "me" the best.”

Reflections

I grew up as a farm boy in the inland mountain area of China and always dreamed of studying at a prestigious school in the U.S. When I reached my 40s I started to think about what I could do differently to enrich my life. My goal in attending Fuqua was to challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone and to gain new experiences with a global mindset. The world-class faculty, excellent cohort of teammates, and well-designed curriculum all helped me to look at myself from an external point of view and get to know myself better while also learning new skills and perspectives.

Before Fuqua

I am responsible for strategic sourcing and supplier development for the entire supplier base in Asia and I work with global cross-functional teams on new product development to ensure successful launches. I also run the sourcing office and teams in Shanghai.

After Fuqua

I have been able to enhance my knowledge and skills and apply them in my role to think strategically, bring in new perspectives, and engage and influence key stakeholders to manage and drive changes effectively. I am confident that I will be capable of taking on more responsibilities and contributing more to my organization going forward.

Advice

Keep asking and reminding yourself why you are here for this program. Keep showing up and stay curious. There are times where it will get overwhelming; hang in there and do your best, you will be fine.
